At the beginning of March, we kicked off Remix From Zero, inviting music-makers from the Linkin Park Association community and beyond to deliver remixes of songs from Linkin Park's eighth studio album From Zero. After giving you guys a month to work on and submit your tracks, LPA staff carefully sifted through the entries and each voted for our five favourites, using a weighted points system to arrive at our consensus favourite. Before we announce our winner and runners-up, we want to thank and acknowledge all of our contest participants who helped to make Remix From Zero a success! It has been a privilege to witness your creative talents and to be trusted with your submissions. It was a joy seeing notifications for new tracks in the inbox every other day. We've been involved in quite a few remix contests over the years, and we're happy to point out that all of these Remix From Zero entries stayed firmly within the rules we laid out, so none of them had to be disqualified. We hope to see many of you again if another opportunity like this arises. Now, let's get to it: OUR WINNER: IGYEIH (XEFUZION REMIX) XEFUZION has dropped in with a scorching industrial trap take on From Zero's nu-metal deep cut "IGYEIH". The track shows off X's signature punchy and cinematic style, built around a pair of violent drops that combine distorted bass stabs, sliced-up guitar phrases, whirring alarm samples and more, all underpinning excerpts of Emily Armstrong's no-holds-barred vocals from the original song. A regular and well-known presence in the world of fanmade Linkin Park remixes, X isn't one to say much, instead establishing his reputation in the greater LP community purely by the quality of his tracks. XEFUZION is the lucky winner of a From Zero vinyl signed by the band. In addition to our big winner, we also wanted to highlight a couple of other submissions that stood out after the votes were tallied: RUNNER-UP: GOOD THINGS GO (REMIX BY P4MUSIC) P4Music gives us a sparse electronic take on From Zero's heartwrenching closing track "Good Things Go". This version outfits the song with an insistent four-to-the-floor rhythm, deep bass and plucks that lean towards minimal house, but P4 pairs these elements with some gorgeous string parts that give the chorus vocals maximum emotional heft during the breakdown. Stick around for P4's clever bridge rearrangement. RUNNER-UP: TWO FACED (INTENSITY REMIX) This remix of the nu-metal banger "Two Faced" by INTENSITY starts off mysteriously with some soft piano chords and glitchy rhythmic elements, eventually revealing dark drum & bass drops for Shinoda's rap verses to fire over. More musical phrases and elements from the original song are referenced throughout the rest of the arrangement, but all with an electronic twist that removes them from their rap-rock origins. Thanks again to all who participated, and once again, congratulations to XEFUZION for his winning entry.
We seriously do owe a massive thank-you all the entrants. Between all of us, we liked a big range of the tracks. Please feel free to share your entry again here.
Dang, that makes for a great winner. Dope remix, love the industrial touch, and also that IGYEIH is getting some love. Congratulations!
Congrats to all the participants, 'cause even if we didn't win, we brought more music to ourselves and to the world If someone missed my take on Cut The Bridge, here it is: Youtube Download
Congrats to the winners, was fun doing an LPA remix competition again after a while. Hope we get another one soon!
I quit producing 3 years ago because I didn't have the motivation anymore. But news of this contest fueled me and brought me out of retirement. After submitting my remix, I'm now tinkering with music again. Thank you LPA for bringing me back to my passion! Congratulations to the winners, you guys are in a league of your own!
Congratulations to the winner (that remix kicks ass!) and the runners-up, great job! And thanks to LPA for reminding me that remixing LP is always fun! Hope I'll make some progress with banjo in order to remix some other song My take here:
