    OOooook ok, then!

    1. A Tribe Called Quest - The Low End Theory
    2. Kendrick Lamar - good kid, m.A.A.d city
    3. Nas - Illmatic
Wanna start with Tribe? Maybe we can gather 5 albums and roll the dice. Who wants to add another?

Think @minuteforce will definitely have a suggestion on this one as well. @Deliveranze and @Gibs probably too. Let's do this :D

Maybe good to gather albums for at least one full day, to catch few more ideas.

Looking at the albums you guys have already opted for, I'm going to throw in Purity Ring's Shrines from 2012

We’ve got a pool growing now, so first, I think the question comes back to whether we vote or randomly select. Second, I think that also means asking should this idea be multi-thread?

It seems you can only make one poll per thread, so mapping out how to do it efficiently without making a digital mess feels important. And I think the “Club” will likely rely on polls for one thing or another.

The sure fire easy way to get it rolling is probably just compile a list of nominations in this one thread and generate an order randomly. Bam, roadmap that possibly reaches out months.

But we may feel differently now verses having a fresh poll then.

Edit: I just noticed that you were suggesting an order as well as writing the pool, @juancpin

I think, with such a limited amount of albums you're looking at right now, you should pick one from the list and be done with it

A big part of me thinks you’re right. Searching for the steam to put in the sail RIGHT now may be in spite of what will come with just diving into it for the pilot.

Going by popularity, I think that means “The Low End Theory” is our first album! @Qwerty19 and @juancpin sold it on me.

I agree!! If you don’t mind, we can start with Tribe. Now: time of listening!! A week? Three days?

I’m not sure how best to do the listening party. It might be hard for me to listen to it in one go, honestly. When I’m not working, I’m parenting. And when I’m not parenting, I SHOULD be sleeping.

My off days this album week if it starts today, though, are today, Friday, next Monday, and next Wednesday.

I don't think wrangling everyone who might want to participate and syncing them up for a real-time listening party is practical

Nope, we might need to discard the synced listening. I suggest then start today and give everyone until next Tuesday, that would do one week, right? Maybe we can rename the thread and the club weekly:
LPA LISTENING CLUB: 25/02 - 04/03 A Tribe Called Quest- The Low End Theory.

i think its near impossible to find a time where everyone could sit down and listen to a record. There are just too many time zones here for it
IIRC even some Listening Partys for some Linkin Park shows/records here it was a pretty late time for me to join

I realized pretty delayed that I gave no indication of agreeing to the timeframe suggested by @juancpin when I definitely meant to. If it was unclear, we can say album club weeks begin and end on Fridays, instead.

Sorry, I was afraid we’d finalize before everyone interested joined nominations. The album for hip-hop week is set!
    -
Week 1, February 28th - March 6th, we’re listening to “The Low-End Theory” by A Tribe Called Quest. Participation is open door! Listening Style: At your own leisure.

I think now we should suggest pop albums for next week. One suggestion per person. Then, on March 6th, I’ll post a discussion thread for “The Low-End Theory” which will include a poll with everyone’s Pop album nominations from this thread so we can vote and review.

As always, I’m open to objections and ideas, though. That’s just what sounds closest to right at the moment. I’m still stumped about making genre rotations democratic without confusion or mess, too, but maybe I’ll just take the reins on genre. Or maybe voting can be done template-style, included in discussion posts.

Heheh I started yesterday in fact with the album! (which, by the way, I only found it censored and it pisses me off ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ) For now it's really really cool and smooth.

I’ve listened through once already. Trying to save my thoughts, but definitely glad we went with this one. I’m going to try to listen to it at least twice over.

Looks like we have some late votes on genre, too. I’m still open to letting their ranking set an order.

Four listenings in, and I start to understand the flow and method. It’s a really cool produced album. I’ll try to make it justice with a nice review post.

No pressure to go crazy with analysis or anything. I think the beauty of this idea is going to be in having zero expectations where participation is concerned. Even if it turns out that you don’t have anything to say about an album, we did a community and friendship by agreeing to experience a piece of art together. And then we’re on to the next! That alone is the real goal.

I still have at least two more objectives for this pilot, though. So, here is a rough draft template suggestion.

    • Review: Self-explanatory.
    • Album Vote: Vote on album nominations from last week.
    • Album Nomination: Nominate an album for next week, based on genre vote from last week.
    • Genre Vote: Vote on a genre for two weeks from point of vote.
The goal is to create an easy method that packs everything the club needs to keep rolling smoothly without digital mess and confusion into a formula for one post and one thread per week. (Not as a rule, for efficiency.)

    Does that template make sense?
