It's great! Just really wish they'd left the "The clock keeps ticking / the rules are written" parts out. Makes me think of the little raps on songs like Lost where it feels like a contractually mandated quota of rap has to be included on a LP album, and this is how they meet it.
The best heavy song on the album. Unlike the others, this one doesn't feel like a blatant recreation of an existing song. I also love Emily's vocal performance, she genuinely sounds angry.
I love how everything sounds together after the chorus, creepy atmospheric sounds, drums and the scratching. Agree about Mike's part, especially the way he says "written", takes me out of the song every time.
Agreed. It doesn't ruin it for me, but it does feel a little forced. THE RULES AREN'T WRI' EHNN! The riffage at the end of this song reminded me of Burn by Three Days Grace at the listening party (a song I have not heard in a very long time), but I think that may have been influenced by the speaker quality. I hear it a little still, but not as much.
Totally agree with everyone saying that Mike’s rap isn’t really necessary in this song. It’s a solid heavy track on its own.
I actually likes Mike's part The voice intonation is almost sneaky / trying to be annoying on purpose, sounds a bit funny, I don't know how to describe it. It's goofy, but it works. Song bangs. Getting Tool vibes at times.
It crossed my mind! Like I didn't think of that song in particular, but it reminded me of Kurt. And now that you say it, yep, for sure.
Actually is very clever what Mike is doing here and his brief rapping is perfect for this song. Mike's rap lines in IGYEIH: And the clock keeps tickin' // the rules aren't written match as a scheme and flow the lines from Two Faced: Your truth's not rigid // The dark's too vivid // I start to give in which is amazing because these two separate tracks are connected in this way. Fun fact, another connection is between IGYEIH and Stained with the lyrics: (Stained) But we both know forgotten doesn't mean forgiven // (IGYEIH) Forgotten doesn't mean that it's forgiven this time Mike's rapping in IGYEIH is essential and amazing!
The wordplay is throughout the album. Heavy is the Crown and Good Things Go are linked this way, too.
Possibly Mike's worst performance on this album. I'm a bit meh on most of this song, but that ending kicked ass. Emily sounded great. 63/100
