Well, A Line in the Sand fits well at the end of The Hunting Party (instead of POWERLESS imo), but I will always consider The Messenger as the best album closer of their discography. For the song itself, I have to say it has always been a masterpiece for me, and one of the album's highlights. Rob ultimately shines on the album with a fast-paced and powerful drum track. It seems also that we were not the only ones amazed by his demonstration. Guitar track is also quite memorable, not complex yet catchy and aggressive, much like Brad Delson's play through the entire album. Chester delivers an ultimate vocal performance, and what a performance ! Chorus is not the most inspired but certainly (at least to me) one of the most impressive Chester ever delivered. However I find Mike's rapping not quite convincing, but intro and outro are atmospheric and ATS-themed lyrics fit surprisingly well. Unfortunately, I will say that I didn't really feel Dave's and Joe's presence in this track and, overall, in the album. Great album closer to one of my favourite albums from the band. So, err, no Session for a while. Waiting for LP7 !
Does anyone agree that some time we should restart this thread with proper posts about the songs? The description of Papercut was absolutely terrible compared to the detailed and dramatic ones that have been made recently.
Think this thread shall come alive when LP7 is out. I stopped posting in this a long time ago but I can add that A Line in the Sand is definitely one of my all time favorites from LP. It mixes the non traditional structure and atmospheric feels of ATS with the heaviness of their previous work. This song and Mark the Graves are the ones who do that perfectly. And ALITS as an album closer is great, not sure if I can choose a favorite because TLTGYA is up there too. Looking forward to the next part of this thread!
Would anyone be keen on going through the "Hybrid Theory" EP or "The Rising Tied" or something as a stopgap?
We (aka not me) should do write ups for Hybrid Theory here, none of those songs have posts like the other albums do.
The problem is, the songs on those albums are all so identical - it's hard describing 12 different songs that have the same song structure, same distorted guitars, same rapping verses, same chorus anthem. I tried for Meteora and it was difficult enough writing about Don't Stay. If someone is passionate enough about those albums and that sound, then by all means go for it, but the job would be awfully repetitive.
Yeah, I wrote up parts of Hybrid Theory, plus a full post on Papercut, and it's incredibly time consuming. All those songs have 17+ years of history, plus a Reanimation version, some have a Collision Course version... I felt like if I was doing it, I had to do it justice. And that justice took 3-4 hours minimum. I'm sorry but I just don't have that time right now - I'm finishing high school and taking SATs to enrol in college all in three or four months. I couldn't think back on this period in my life one day and think "oh I didn't make it into engineering cause I wrote about really fucking old Linkin Park songs". I'm sorry I can't do it right now, but if someone can, I'm more than glad to hand it to them.
This is why I thought of doing the EP, because all of those songs are very much distinct from one another
In my opinion the more interesting parts of the write-ups is the comments the band has on them, making of facts, links to demo, info about live performances, etc. I don't think they all need descriptions about how they have guitars and soaring choruses, etc. Not that I don't appreciate the hard work in that part of the posts, but just my thoughts! I would love to talk about the rising tied
Yes, I would argue that the only song that is any different from the others on Hybrid Theory is Papercut. The rest are good songs but pretty much identical with the exception of maybe In The End although that too has a similar structure and screamo+guitar chorus.
Yo I have two things to mention: 1. The main post has a typo it lists on ATS "Jornda del Muerto" one "a" is missing 2. In the post for "Session" (the song ) it says that the hidden track of the Hybrid Theory EP is not a demo of session, but didn't Mike actually say he used elements from that track in it? Not stating that makes the statement in the post false, just that I wanted to point it out.
