First thought: #1 Nu-Metal is not something to be proud of. Second thought: No the fuck way does LP come out on top of Deftones except in a popularity contest. And considering Deftones ranks about Limp Bizkit, I doubt this was decided via popularity.
I cant judge that, but i think its a bit too fast judged, when a band just put out two albums of this genre.
No 1 can even touch Hybrid theory or even meteora when it comes to mixing rock with rap, nobody does it better than LP, hell id even bet they can make an album that could blow HT out of the water
Rage is overrated imo. Never liked Del Rocha as an emcee. His verse on RTJ2 was tight though. Anyways....agree but, like others said, not something to be exactly proud of.
Opinion on ZDR aside, you can't deny that the instrumental ability of Rage is vastly superior to LP. Because otherwise you're saying Brad Delson is better than Tom Morello. The man who can come up with a better solo using just an instrument cable. Because otherwise you're saying Joe Hahn is better than Tom Morello. The man who can do a better turntable solo without a turntable. If it doesn't start in the correct spot, the solo is at 2 min. 46 seconds.
What else could a "top 10" list be other than a popularity contest? There's a reason why LP were infinitely more successful than most of their peers, they made simple but effective music. If you're looking for technical ability or skill then Nu Metal is the wrong place to look at. I'm not into Nu Metal, but LP are considered by many to be one of the genre's best. The bar's not that high. At least this list mentions that the band had a career after Meteora. That in and of itself is good enough to me.
Oh, no doubt, Rage is better instrumentally than LP but Del Rocha always rubbed me the wrong way. I always hated pseudo-political hip hop that felt like the type of shit that angry 40 year old underground rappers got inspired off of....You know, like the illuminati/conspiracy/anti-mainstream type music. He has his moments like Mike does but it's entirely hard to say any rap rock emcee is of a GOAT status. Tom Morello is fucking awesome though. In terms of Rage's music as a whole, nah, no. If I want a rapper talking political or conscious, I'll throw on some Krs-One, Common or Talib. My two cents.
I agree, RATM obviously trump LP in terms of technical ability (except for vocals, Mike and Chester are far more diverse than ZDR), but technical ability isn't everything. If I'm looking for kick-ass solos, great riffs and angsty rapping, I'm not going to listen to LP. RATM are great at what they do, but they're two very different bands. It's also silly to compare the two bands in terms of guitar solos when the two LP albums in question, HT and Meteora, contain a grand total of zero guitar solos.
