Don't you dare. Nothing ever tops TLTGYA Kidding. I respect your opinion But TLTGYA is where it's at.
I can see why people enjoy "A Line in the Sand," as it has a little bit of everything that Linkin Park has to offer (as Mike has also shared). At the same time, though, I really think it's quite disjointed. It bounces around too much, and I sincerely have a difficult time making the connection between Mike's verses and Chester's portions in the chorus. What I enjoy about the song is how raw Chester sounds, and I do enjoy the guitar riffs (even though the chord progression is more or less identical to that of "Guilty All the Same"). Otherwise, I think the song is just not very well constructed. I get frustrated at Mike's breakdown that sounds just way too much like "By Myself," and am similarly weirded out by the guitar breakdown in the middle. I just like Rob's drum parts really, if I were to pick one consistent aspect of the song that is actually enjoyable. Everything else is too spotty, for me.
What I really love about this song is that it just makes want to pick up a guitar and start playing the guitar part (GATS also has that same effect). This album as a while really inspires to work on playing guitar (I am currently learning to play acoustic guitar).
If the mixing was decent enough and Chester's chorus were re-recorded then it would be my favorite song from THP. Unfortunately, it feels like Chaz was yelling all throughout the chorus, his words are even uncomprehending. I don't know. Though, I understand the nature to make it sounded from a tape or even raw sounding but the mixing (Chester's vocal parts) was terrible.
I've been playing for a year now and can tell you that both songs are not very hard (the solos might take a little bit to get right). I don't mean that as a bad or good thing, just saying lol.
Not even top 10. I like it, though. To elaborate, I'm not going to try and break down the different pieces of why parts do or do not work, but I'll describe it as a song I'm not in the mood to hear every time I play the album, but the times I do listen to it, I fully enjoy it.
I'm not saying that it's extremely complicated, I'm just saying this album as a whole makes me want to play guitar.
I like it as an closer but it doesn't get to me as GATS or AfN or Wastelands. Those ones are the songs that still get me hyped everytime I hear them while they are way more simple. I don't know what LP song to choose for favorite but I know it wouldn't be ALITS for me.
