Love Hard and Loud Rock music. But also i could go with some soft rock ballades, which i really pefer imo. UIG isnt he way i feel about a good ballade :3 more like a radio rock song. So , i am sure i will be happy with THP, also if there are no Iridescents or The Messengers 2.0

I am looking forward to this album, they are doing heavy stuff for the first time in a long time. Not that I want NU-Metal, but this is a welcome return for me.

The album is turning up to be decent. Its coming along at the perfect time because I had the same mindset as Mike, understanding that Rock is fading away in some sense, and my 14 year old self was back and in need of real rock, not Lorde the "2014 rockstar". So for a few months now I've been listening to a mix CD I made in 7th grade, as well as stuff I've recently gotten into based on friend suggestions. Its crazy because I had completely forgotten about a bunch of these artists I used to listen to.

But, on LP's end, everything isn't super great atm. Other than Guilty All The Same, I haven't been too impressed. I was hoping to be more surprised or shocked, like some of their previous work. I wanted something really heavy, but with some twist, maybe throw in a drum solo, a screamo type track from Chester, have another guy in the band sing (not talking about a guest vocalists), or another folk like track, but with hard rock elements. This is turning out to be more of a pre-Minutes to Midnight (the band's original vision for MTM) which is all fine and dandy, I just hope it has more to offer. I've been more surprised by Mike's mall track than I have for most of the songs we've heard from THP.
Despite the heavier direction of music I have been listening too, LIVING THINGS is currently my favorite album, and the way it goes, it might remain that way after this album cycle again.

Totally happy with the direction they've taken with this next record. This is exactly where they left off with QWERTY before they began their inception of Minutes to Midnight.

I don't mind the direction so much, as I think so far I've been pleased with the hard sound with "Guilty All the Same" and "Wastelands." However, I've been very frustrated with the lyricism in all three of the songs, especially "Until It's Gone." I'm concerned that going fast in the direction of harder music and trying to bring something fresh and "visceral" to the music scene came at the expense of the attention to detail that the band used to pay to lyrics. I was really impressed with the lyricism on A Thousand Suns and LIVING THINGS. But now, that doesn't seem to really be the case any more. The best lyrics in the three songs that we have heard have come from Rakim.

With that said, I'm hoping for some other real stand-out songs on the album that show improved lyricism. I'm not super optimistic however.

well , my english isnt the best.

What i want to say. I maybe will love THP, but there arent ballades like Iridescent there , which i would love.

I love how ATS ends with the Messenger, this will be maybe not the same with A Line In The Sand.

    Looking for it :)

    This

I also feel like my obligatory "learn the new linkin park album on guitar" is going to be a bit more of a challenge, which is a good thing.

I'm excited for it simply seems like it will be a high energy album and usually those are the songs I enjoy the most by the band. There was a sense of fun and excitement, an energy that I feel has been missing from LP's work for a while. Living Things touched upon it, and I hope it continues. I really don't care if it's electronic or guitar driven, slow or fast, just as long as there is that sense of passion, or fun, or whatever the hell you want to call it. It's why I hope they never attempt to make another artsy album like ATS, the band did not sound like they were having any fun with that album.

Yeah, I have this bias which generally equates LP's heavier rock numbers with (what is in my eyes) sub-par lyricism

But, on the other hand, I think that that's the challenge that the band set for themselves, what with all the talk about "real lyrics" and stuff

I'm a heavy-metal/death-metal/thrash-metal/hard-rock/punk enthusiast so I was very excited once I heard GATS. I think the song is an anthem, that riff is killer and once it hits it doesn't relent it's pace.

Until it's Gone & Wastelands are still a bit 'meh, alright' for me though.. great sounding stuff but generic and predictable.

I don't really have a preference between their heavy and soft style. If it is heavy and good, I'm okay with it. If it is soft and good, I'm okay with it also.

But I think it was a good choice after 3 softer albums.

I'm all for this heavier style. I've loved everything the band has done, and I'm looking forward to this album too. And I've liked every track we've heard from it, so far.

I think, most of the hate directed towards the tracks are the result of people's expectations going sky-high after what the band and reviewers said about this album. That's what scares me. I'm pretty sure I'll love the album, but even if it's a little different from what the band describes it to be, people will go apeshit about it, even if it's just 1 song. People just can't seem to enjoy something for what it is. Part of it is the band's fault though, I'm pretty sure if they just said something on the lines of "this album is going to be heavy" and left it at that, there'd be less hate. But I'm not complaining, I love everything so far.

As for what I like better, if that clip from The Mall trailer is any indication of how the 6th album was going to sound like before they ditched that direction, and if I had to choose, I'd honestly choose that direction. Just that, it appeals to me more. So much more that just that short clip gave me a bigger eargasm than all the three THP tracks combined. I've kinda grown out of the more heavy styles of music, which means, I'm at this stage where I don't look for heavy albums to listen to. I enjoy mellow, dark, atmospheric music more. But yeah, that's just me. I honestly don't mind the heavy direction, in fact I'm looking forward to it. And I'm sure we'll get to hear some of those songs from the earlier direction too, something just tells me that we will. And if that happens, it's pretty much a win-win situation. :D

I would wait till the full album is out mate :) There are plenty of "ok" tracks on LT and some of the other albums. Ones I can name off hand are Skin to Bone, Roads Untraveled, One Step Closer (this song was lyrically not all that great), Lost In The Echo. The listening party for LT everyone was kind of like.. uhh. It was a nice return to form for certain tracks, but IMO far from my favorite album. People now are freaking out about it more than ever, which is a good sign. I know people were with LT's too, but I know most of our group was quiet after LT.

About GATS: I HOPE there's a version with Mike, because live it already sounded better (IMO).

I feel like you're not the only one to feel this way. Just look at "best album of the year" thread, there's not anything remotely heavy to be found here lol And it's not that there aren't great elaborated heavy records out there, because there definitely are. One of the most critically praised record of 2013 was an album by metal band Deafheaven, but I've never seen it mentionned in this forum. It's just that, probably just like you, a lot of guys aren't really looking forward heavy albums.

I'm kinda surprised at the results of the polls to be honest, especially with the fact that nobody has voted for the "negative" option yet. But that's a good thing I guess :)

One thing I've learned about Linkin Park is that their albums never sound like what they describe it as being as. Also, it never really lives up to the hype. Truthfully, i'm expecting a more guitar heavy album, some stuff that's fun for them to play live, and the usual formula with the rock/rap. I'm secretly hoping for one track that will blow my mind. I haven't felt that way about LP since maybe Meteora with Breaking the Habit on first listen. And NO i'm not a bring nu-metal back guy. My favorite LP song in the last 5 years is Burning in the Skies..I hope they make a sequel to A Thousand Suns at some point. I loved that album.

What I do HOPE for with The Hunting Party are guitar riffs we've never heard before. Even more range from Chester. I think with each album since Meteora he's gotten better as a singer. I pray Mike raps less the rap/rock is really corny to me. LP is at their best with Chester on lead vocals and Mike in the background, at the most vocals like Waiting for the End to bridge the song together.

Wastelands was good, but it's lyrical gibberish.

This. Like the mall soundtrack sounds amazing and I don't know why LT didn't turn out like the mall soundtrack.

But THP is very nice because you can hear elements from every album.
