I know its early and I know Wastelands has only been released live but in what order would you rank the songs? For me: 1. Wastelands 2. Until It's Gone 3. Guilty All the Same (all are very, very good though)
I'm gonna have to say GATS. But, of course, I'm not listening to Wastelands until the album comes out. So I probably shouldn't have voted. Sorry Blake.
For me it's Wastelands > GATS > UIG. I enjoyed all three for different reasons: Wastelands: I love the energy of the track, it's got such a catchy groove. Enjoyed Mike's raps (and we know Mike's rapping is much worse live, so that's good news) and the guitar parts leading into the verses. My favorite part of the track is how the instrumental bridge builds up the sound, then is juxtaposed into a quiet vocal bridge. It honestly reminds me of BYOB or something similar from System where they have a heavy section then immediately transition into a soft melodic section. GATS: I'm in the minority in this for sure, but I love Chester's vocal performance in this song. To me this track is heavier vocally than a lot of his scream-singing songs, and I think he showed vocal maturity by being able to sound angry without needing to scream. I love playing this song on guitar, I got everything down except the solo, it's easily the most fun LP song to play on guitar. Gets me pumped every time. UIG: Elephant in the room is the lyrics, yup they aren't original. They are, however, at least meaningful. Again, Chester's vocal delivery at least makes it seem like he means what he is singing, even if the words are cliche. The dynamics of the song are beautiful, it's cool how it can transition from soft to heavy so smoothly. My favorite part of the track is the last part of the first verse where it becomes really soft and it's just Chester singing with some backup layering vocals. Overall, it's a 3/3 for me. In the previous cycle I enjoyed BID but didn't particularly like LGM after a few listens through. In that respect, THP is shaping up to be much more promising than LT.
My favorite was Wastelands, but i liked them all. The reasons! Wastelands: The energy in this track and the style was a welcome return after not hearing a similar style song since QWERTY. The rap has a very punk vibe that i enjoy and a catchy as heck chorus, plus the drums are sick. This tops GATS and UIG. Guilty All The Same: I loved the idea of a longer Linkin Park song, and upon the first listen i almost fainted. After waiting for months for new music, it had come. I listened to this song 13 times that day. The guitar is kinda choppy in the beginning, but Chester makes up for it with his melodic voice, but yet harsh gritt. The drums once again are impressive, and i loved the introduction of Rakim. Until It's Gone- I misunderstood the nature of the track, but nonetheless, it is a song that will stick with you. While it seemed to soft to be on this kind of an album, i'm sure they will make it work. The synths are very pleasureable, as are the subdued gutars. Chester's vocals are amazing in this song. That's that, i cannot wait for this album. Every single one of these songs defeats anything on Living Things (except COG, or maybe 1 or two others)
No reason to be sorry You can vote if you want, its all good! I agree with this! 3/3 so far! and we still have epic songs to come with different song styles and arrangements. I also agree with you're second statement, but LT is my favorite LP album. So I can rephrase that saying: "THP is shaping up to be the best LP album ever."
"I know its early and I know Wastelands has only been released live" also, you don't have to participate. Its an option I think Wastelands is currently the best even though its just a live version. I thought it would be fun to see what other people thought
I'm sure my opinion of Wastelands is biased because that concert was so freaking awesome up to that point that they could have played anything and I would have enjoyed it! I hope it has that same effect in the studio version.
1. Wastelands (it reminds me of 2002 haha) 2. GATS (Its just a long, rocking Song) 3. UIG (I love it as much as GATS, but if i had to choose, i chose GATS because its longer )
I absolutely love GATS, there's something ferocious about that song coming from LP. It's easily my favourite. Wastelands sounds totally sick so far, loving the mean riff. I barely listen to UIG, not because it's not good, but because I enjoy the other two so much more.
I'm bored of Until It's Gone, and I didn't even listen to it much. I don't think it's a bad track though, I like it. GATS is really good, but Wastelands is my personal favorite. Dat riff
For me GATS is number one. That song just really took me by surprise. I hadn't really expected LP to come out with such a raw, straight up rock song and I loved it! The guitars and drums just make me drool.. Even though I like Wastelands a lot too, I feel like I will get bored with that song easier than with GATS.
Guilty All The Same is hands down the best! Honestly, if it would end up being my favorite track off the album, I really wouldn't mind, sure I over played it, but I still remember listening to it that first time and just going out of my mind from how epic it was! Until It's Gone has grown on me somewhat since the release. The lyrics are still absolute shit tho, makes me think a 6th grader wrote it, and I can't seem to fully emerse myself into the track because of it. If it really is the softest song on the album, It'll probably have the same fate as ROADS UNTRAVELED did and be the useless track I skip. I won't even bother with Wastelands.
Great to see GATS get some love! I understand it isn't everyone's cup of tea, but it really is a fucking blast of an experience listening to it every time.
