    Uhh, didn't Kittie break up?

On another note, Linkin Park hasn't really done anything revolutionary, other than popularizing nu-metal. Even with that, it still isn't enough to be considered a spot as Icon. If anything, they might even be considered as one of the biggest jokes of our era. Why, might you ask? Well, there's quite a few factors. The first one is probably something we're all familiar with: Reanimation. Actually, we should go a little further back.

Let's look at In the End first. We all know it as one of the most popular songs on the Hybrid Theory CD, and I'll admit, I like the song too. The only problem with it is that after it was released, it hit the bane of this society, also known as TRL. It then proceeded to hit #1 (woo hoo?), and then 14 million copies later, it became the best-selling album of 2001. Believe me, this was only the start.

Reanimation is the next peice of the puzzle. And yes, you probably have seen me defending the release of this album to death from time to time, but looking back, it was only a waste. "Hey, we have money now, so why don't we just remix our songs and release them on a CD to make more money? This plan is FOOLPROOF." Ahem... Anyways, I guess we can all see the point I was trying to get at with that one.

Piece number three belongs to DC Shoes. The band is already known well enough, so we don't need the shoes. Once again, it's just another ploy to make money. Leave that crap to those fake pimps. *cough*50 Cent*cough*G-Unit*cough*

Some people could consider Meteora piece number four, but that was mostly Don Gilmore's fault, so we'll leave it at that. ^_^

And if you guys/gals couldn't see it coming, that last piece of this whole thing is... *suspense* Breaking the Habit. Yes, you know what I'm talking about. The song that was overhyped before the album came out, and also the all time favorite according to all of the so-called 'true fans', or 'Linkieboppers', or whatever the heck they chose to call themselves over at the LPMB. From a business standpoint, releasing the song is great opportunity to make some cash. From my standpoint, releasing the song is the biggest mistake since In the End. Then again, I guess we could all thank Numb for backfiring, but that's a completely different point on it's own.

Anyways, my prediction is that Breaking the Habit is going to achieve what Numb couldn't. That's a bad thing, by the way. The next thing we know, their new material will probably get even more watered down than Meteora. I guess I should get to the point though.

Linkin Park worked pretty hard to get where they are at, touring like dogs, creating song ideas and the like. Looking back on it, the whole ordeal was all in vain. In the whole grand scheme of things, the band is selling out. That, and that reason only, is why they will never get to the point of Icon. I don't even think they'd last for that long, either.

To end off my huge rant, I'd like to say this. First of all, if you are going to type up stuff like 'omglolz u r leik soooooooooooo rong lolwtf linkin prk rulz!!!!!!11!', don't even bother replying to this thread. If you can't make a good point, then you aren't worthy of the time for me to type up a response.

Second. I'm very aware of the whole contreversy surrounding Breaking the Habit, and I've already read many of the views surrounding the reasons for the release. Don't bother typing up a response just so I can read the same bloody thing all over again.

Thridly, I'm pretty sure you're all wondering why I bothered to type this all up. Some of you have probably seen me along with a few others on the LPMB critisizing the band from time to time, so I just want to say this. We aren't critisizing LP just for the sake of critisizing. This reason why we critisize the band is becuase we actually care where this band is heading with their music. That, and we aren't going to just blindly agree with everything they do.

Thank you for the time in reading this, and happy posting. Mods, if you want to seperate this into a seperate topic, then go ahead.

God I hope not. The next album will make them or break them. I hope they get their act together next time.

Anyway, it'd be cool to have these bands cover these songs..

    Lostprophets - Crawling
    Taproot - Pushing Me Away

    :)

The way I see it, is that LP could eventually become Icons even with their current media track . Yes, meteora wasnt as quality as Hybrid Theory, I, as many others will admit that, but, thats no reason to deny the fact that Linkin Park is bloody awesome. "Selling Out" isnt really a factor in icon anymore...I mean just look at (who i think ot be sellouts) Metallica. They did have an Icon taping did they not? And they did one of the biggest flipping turn arounds I've ever seen.

Concluding, dont penalize LP for having slumped a bit and not giving a full 100 percent on their second album, they are young and very capable to blow our minds with the next album.

    Love,
    Jay and Silent Bob

    (sorry couldnt resist that one...)

They only started selling out as of recently, with the game that their voices are in, etc, but that's an entirely different topic. Linkin Park's 'selling out' state has been going on for over a year and a half, starting with Reanimation.

I agree with a lot of what you said, Cameron, except about Reanimation.

The band had no expectations for that album. They only wanted to do a small EP before recording Meteora, but they ended up getting enough response and remixes to create an entire album. At the Nottingham show, Linkin Park's first show to promote Meteora, Mike asked the crowd if they had Reanimation. When the crowd exploded, Mike was shocked and was silent for a good 10 seconds before just saying "wow." They had no expectations for the album and were really surprised by the response it got.

I will, however, say that they've started to sell out with the releases of "Numb," "From The Inside" and "Breaking The Habit." They need to step it up for the next album big time if they want to retain any of their credibility as a hard rock band.

Yea, why 'From The Inside'? I understand perfectly the other two, but why 'From The Inside'?
