Aaaah, great to finally see another fan of them! (as well of Deftones of course!) :)

Such a great, great band, and you got it right when you desribe them as the "Radiohead of post hardcore". Vheissu is one of my favorite record ever, and The Artist in the Ambulance + The Alchemy Index are not far behind. I'm quite sad I never had the occasion to see them live before their hiatus.

Oh, and you didn't mention their last 2 records, which are more grungy in sound, Beggars and Major/Minor . Have you listened to them yet?

Wow. I didn't know they were on hiatus that's disappointing; and no I haven't gotten around to Beggars or Major/Minor yet. I'm still processing Vheissu and The Alchemy Index. Ha ha.

:offtopic: It still boggles my mind how Red Sky and Atlantic weren't huge hits on rock radio back in the day.

^ True. In general, it boggles me how Thrice hasn't got more recognition. That band would have deserved to have a statut as big as some Muse or LP if you ask me, but that might be the fanboy in me talking there

On Beggars and Majori/Minor, I'd say the first one is almost as good as the 2 preceding records. It's not as original or experimental, but it definitely have some great tracks in terms of songwriting. Also, the mood is totally different, more raw and organic, especially with how the guitars sound...It's almost like a new Thrice. Major/Minor is a continuation of that, with a more grunge-influenced sound, and it's definitely a good record too. Hopefully you'll have fun when you'll listen to them!

I understand that they're too experimental and heavy to be as big as Muse or LP, but they should be at least Deftones or Tool level.

Cool. I'll definitely check those albums out eventually.

Great to see some fellow Thrice fans on here :)
According to this article it seems they are coming back, which got me pretty excited!
    http://www.altpress.com/news/entry/...and_will_record_new_music_says_touring_is_ver

    Now back to topic:
Narrowing my lists down to ten was extremely difficult, but I tried my best.

It's been bugging me since this thread opened and I see not everyone has followed the 10 band rule so I've expanded my list.

    Muse
    Behemoth
    slipknot
    Led Zeppelin
    Jimi Hendrix

    Tool

    There that feels better :p

    Not really in order:

    Arcade Fire
Nine Inch Nails/How to Destroy Angels
    Massive Attack
    The Books
Death Cab for Cutie/The Postal Service
    Radiohead
    Death Grips
    OneRepublic
    Linkin Park
    Vampire Weekend

Linkin Park and OneRepublic are two bands I'm starting to reconsider. Linkin Park really has only made 1.5-2 albums that I really feel anything towards anymore, and I follow them more out of habit/nostalgia.

OneRepublic started off strong by combining pop sensibility with some great song writing and even stuff that's a bit more "out there," but their latest was pure pop and that train seems to be speeding up and not slowing down.

Some groups that I really like but are probably still too new to judge are:

    Lorde
    Purity Ring
    High Highs
    Mutual Benefit
    Foster The People
    Passion Pit
    Youth Lagoon
    Raindeer
    Grouplove
    Chvrches

Yeah, recently I'm finding that I feel the same way. I guess that's why this album wait has been/is completely tolerable.

I have to say that their inclusion in your list feels a bit random in how they contrast with the other artists you've included. Especially in regard to the second "new" one. You are more of an indie/synthpop/alternative fan, don't you?

Nice to see Purity Kind and Chvrches right there! I didn't mentioned them because of how new they are, but I've been listening to both a lot for the past few months.
