I know that a lot of you are probably going to reply to this topic with remarks like “that show is for kids.” But, the truth is, the entire “Dragon Ball” series was developed for kids in Japan who were 16 years and older. The original Japanese episodes contained swearing, bloodshed, and sexuality. Also, the original Japanese episodes were about 10 minutes longer than the English episodes. To put it quite simply, the company that owns the rights to “Dragon Ball” in the United States, FUNimation, has ruined it, and has made it seem like “Dragon Ball” was made for 8-year-olds, when it wasn’t.

There were 3 separate shows: “Dragon Ball,” “Dragon Ball Z,” and “Dragon Ball GT.” The original show was based on the comic that creator Akira Toriyama used to draw and have published in the popular Japanese magazine, “Shonen Jump.” He decided to turn the comics into a television show, and Toei Animation signed on to help with the show. After “Dragon Ball” completed, Toriyama decided that he wanted to continue the show, and thus created “Dragon Ball Z.” (Note that the “Z” does not stand for anything at all—it has no significance.) “Dragon Ball Z” was initially supposed to be the end of it, but because it was so popular, the animation company wanted to continue it. However, Toriyama didn’t want it to continue. But since Toei owned the rights to the “Dragon Ball” name, they continued the series without Toriyama, and created “Dragon Ball GT.” (The “GT” does indeed stand for something, and that something is “Grand Tour.”)

There were 13 movies created based on the “Dragon Ball Z” universe, 2 made-for-TV specials, and there is also one “lost” movie. There’s an interesting fact that none of the movies have any significance on the series itself. None of them tie into the actual timeline of the series. For example, in the second movie, “Dead Zone,” Garlic Jr. and his henchmen abduct Gohan. By this point, he’s already met Piccolo and Krillin. However, in the TV show at the same time that this movie supposedly takes place, Gohan hadn’t meant Piccolo and Krillin. Thus, this discredits the movie. The TV specials, “Bardock: The Father Of Goku” and “The History Of Trunks” detail Goku’s father, Bardock, and Trunks’ story respectively. The “lost” movie is supposedly “lost” because it was a movie that was never officially released.

There was also supposed to be a live action movie based on “Dragon Ball Z” and it was supposed to be a four-part movie, with each part running 3-4 hours in length. However, the whole project was scrapped due to a lot of delays and things like that. I don’t really know the real details behind why it was scrapped.

I don’t know how many of you actually like the “Dragon Ball” series and/or watch it, but what are your thoughts on it? And, if you don’t like it, don’t just come in here screaming that it’s stupid and whatnot. I don’t care if you think it’s stupid. Come up with a logical argument instead of making yourself look stupid by screaming that it sucks. Thanks.

My brother watches Dragon Ball whatever-the-series-is-called-now. When it first started, I didn't quite get it. Too many characters to follow unless you watched the series from beginning to end. Now that I think about it, it does seem like it could've been (since it was) a series for older kids. I probably still won't watch it, but now its kind of nice to know about what my brother talks about lol

I'm a big fan of it...

    About the live action movie...

The Director: Roland Emmerich (Universal Soldier, Stargate, Independance Day, Godzilla, The Patriot).

Script Writer: The script was written be Tedi Sarafian (who wrote the script for Tank Girl and Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines)

DBZ creator Akira Toriyama was hired as the films consultant but wanted too much control over it so FOX made him sing a new contract which basically gave him the boot.

The hair will be very unique. It will be relatively normal but still have "bounce". Frieza will be mentioned but he will not make an appearance. Goku's uniform will be blue and not orange. Sets are currently being built at the FOX Studios in Sydney, Australia.

"When a mysterious being with superhuman powers abducts Son Goku's son, he and his hated enemy must band together to defeat this threat. But when this encounter ends with Goku's death, Piccolo learns of a greater threat: two more aliens are coming to Earth, and they are even stronger then he is. Armed with this knowledge, Piccolo takes it upon himself to train Goku's son and warn the Earth's warriors. However, Goku's journey does not end with his own death..."

Looks like they will be doing the saiyan saga, It will be nice to see the saga's of DBZ played in a live action, but in my opinion new story lines are needed.

The working title at the moment is "Dragon Ball Z: Unlimited". The running time is ~176 minutes, less than 3 hours. and the rating is PG-13.

What's REALLY interesting is that Hanz Zimmer (Music Producer of: The Rock , Spirit , Gladiator , Pirates of the Caribbean and Last Samurai) will be doing the music for the movies. Being a huge fan of Zimmer myself, this is great news. Zimmers has done extraordinary work and is an excellent composer.

The date of the movie seems to be 2004 according to IMDB but I doubt that. I have heard from the insiders of a teaser.....but the date is not certain.

    17 $uxx0rz ! J/k.

I don't like it. Than again, I've yet to see the Japanese versions. It just doesn't interest me. I mean, most of time they are just talking. It's like, they're kicking eachothers asses and than they stop and have this whole conversation. Also, I seriously think Piccolo and Gohan have a fling going. When watching the show, it seems that the people who made the animation are trying to hint homosexuality there. Oh, and don't get me started with Goku. That dude.. He just... Pato? I'm sorry if that makes me seem stupid but that's what I think of the show. I wouldn't be suprised if they make a episode were all the guys have a orgy. O_O Anyways, I don't like the show. It got boring for me. The storylines bore me. I don't get the humor and the fighting than having a huge conversation is annoying. My mom likes/liked the show, though.

    Important stuff to know:
Android 18 is sexy. The original uncut japanese episodes were released in two DVD box sets last year and cost a total of over 4000 yen and I intend to someday buy them and subtitle them my damned self. It seems to me that the only movie that could've happened in the timeline of the show is the 'Return of Cooler'. It could happen in the 3 years before the Android saga before Goku dies (in Trunks' timeline). Correct me if im wrong on that last one. If the first movie with Cooler could've never happened in the show timeline, disregard my last statement all together. :)

And they do have DBZ porn. Which is weird, but not as weird as the cosplay ones.

FOX is shooting for a PG-13 rating and a running time of somewhere between 3 to 4 hours. They are hoping for the DBZ movie saga to be 4 episodes long (4 movies). Starting in The Saiyan Saga, The Frieza Saga, The Android/Cell Saga, and the Majin Buu Saga.

Piccolo - Sam Wheeler (Unknown) This is a new actor. Apparently he's a big 6'7" black guy with a deep voice. Sounds good to me.

Random stuff my friend told me ^

    Source - official dbz site

I unno my friend sent this stuff to me. If it comes from the offcial site I guess its true.

Guys, they aren't going to be making the movie. Production was cancelled due to conflicts.

    superxero88
That's the only movie where it could've been possible for it to happen, but it would've had to happen just a couple days before Goku came down with the heart disease.

I'm a big fan of the series even though I haven't really seen much of the Dragon Ball series, only the first 10-20 episodes with Pilaf, but I watched all the episodes of Dragonball Z and I have all the Japanese episodes of GT with English subtitles. I've seen most of the movies. The only thing I can't stand is how they editted it so much for North American audiences. I know the final round in the fight between Frieza and Goku on Namek was not supposed to be that long originally, especially when it was supposed to last five minutes at the end, even though it stretched for almost 10 episodes.. Gohan rules too.. :p
