Any DnD players on the boards? I've never played it, but it looks really fun! I don't care much for the content or whatever, I like the fact that it's a good way to have a great time with your friends. It's a role-playing board game. The premise is that you and your friends make characters (all characters have certain perks, abilities, etc.) and basically go on adventures together in a medieval made-up realm. The person controlling the game is the DM, or Dungeon Master. They basically narrate the story. You and your friends go into dungeons and encounter enemies or any other thing the DM can come up with. The story is basically tailored by how you play. It can be serious and dark, or hilarious and light-hearted. Check this video out. It's... ummm... 'kinda'.... long. But oh well its hilarious. It made me and my friend go buy the 4th edition starter kit! I highly reccommend you watch it before making the assumption that's it a boring board game for nerds
I've never DM'd but it's hells of fun. Then college completely totalled my social life and I couldn't find the time to dedicate to it. Especially the multi-week sessions my friends were into. I switched into doing one-off board games instead as they didn't have quite the startup time as DnD does. Also every time I find a LARP group they get too many people wanting in and I never get to play. It also completely ruined MMORPG's for me. MMORPG's don't have pizza with friends in the same place. Or xp grinding, for that matter. The computerized RPG's dont compare.
I've been playing the game for a few years now as player and DM. It's a great game but I wouldn't recommand it for a first RPG experience.
Love DnD, been playing for a couple of years now. Currently playing Pathfinder instead though. Our group wasn't too fond of the changes in 4E from 3.5E.
