No, this time it's not the RIAA banging on a teenager's door with subpoenas and lawsuits, it's Microsoft. Mike Rowe, a 17-year-old Canadian teen has received threatening letters from Microsoft over his website domain "mikerowesoft.com". The mega-billion dollar corporation offered the web designer from British Columbia a miniscule ten dollars in exchange for the domain, but Mike estimates the value at $10000. Anyways, Microsoft won't budge and neither will Mike. That's some courage for you! Canadians have backbone. http://edition.cnn.com/2004/TECH/internet/...t.ap/index.html http://edition.cnn.com/2004/TECH/internet/...ight/index.html http://www.mikerowesoft.com This is the studiest thing ever. His name is Mike Rowe and he added soft to his personal web domain. Big deal. Microsoft must be bored.
I know LMAO It's weird, I read something somewhere and then within the next 10 minutes someone posts it on here I read it first on limpbizkits site... And Mark, you're right: Microsoft must be bored
*makes the same website* hehe.. 1000000000$ :chemist: well.. it does kinda look like it www.micerosoft... yeah..
Microsoft has nothing better to do. Than they saw that website. (Mike Rowe's) This gave them a idea. "Hey ! We could sue him for fun ! Yeah !" Sure, people will probably get confused. But once they actually go to the site, they'll realize they are in the wrong one. Perhaps Microsoft will just make Mike put like a warning around his site or some #### saying it's not Microsoft. I doubt Microsoft will win.
The thing is: Microsoft Mikerowesoft If someone needed to go onto the Microsoft website, they shouldn't have any trouble spelling it because it's a big company that everyone knows the name of...
If I were them, I wouldn't give a sh*t. Who cares anyway? It's not like the kid is doing anything against the law. It's his website they have no right to take it down. I think it's quite hilareous really, it's an awsome name. A great idea esspecially, I would've never thought of that.
You know what? I'd really ask 10 millions for my domain? Why? Cause they have no reason to ask for it. This greedy buisness must not feel like it owns everything in the technology world. Yeah Mark, Canadians have backbone .
Well everyone has a backbone, we just know when to use it. [/b][/quote] Some don't seem to . As soon as they have a problem, they give up.
I saw these on mess.be and it still makes me laugh, It's like microsoft has a big department on suing people, like how the #### did they find the site in the first place.
Oh man, that's hilarious...The kid should milk this for all it's worth. If Microsoft gets the domain, he should make sure he gets a shitload of money. If Microsoft doesn't get the domain, the whole situation will give him some good publicity, get people aware of his site.
Ten dollars?! Is that all poor Micro$oft could scrape up. Come on guys, don't be cheap and leave the poor kid alone or pay him some cash if it's really bothering you that much. And Casey: He is not comitting copywright or trademark infringement or anything of the sort. All you have to do is change one little thing about something and you can sell it. I know because my mom is a Lawyer's Secretary. Example: Ever seen those cheap knock-off dollar store Harry Potter dolls called "Harry Wizard" or things like that? Well those are totally legal because they are not selling the product that the legitimate company registered as a trademark in it's entirety. Still with me? Also, he used his name and a word, when combined, it just happens to sound like Microsoft - that means nothing. He has plausable cause to use that title as much as he wants. As long as there is a visual difference there's nothing MS can do.
