Watched all 15 episodes in a row yesterday. Pure brilliance. It solidifies itself as the best written show in any genre of all time. Ridiculously funny and clever. I couldn't contain myself in some episodes. Genius. Can't wait for season 5 or subsequent movies. I'd say it's the best season they've made. It's a work of storytelling masterpiece. I don't know what else to say.
Wow. Thought this thread would be a lot more popular. But anyway, I've watched the first 11 episodes in a row with my friend and it didn't disappoint. I've watched a few of them a second time and got much more out of it. I would definitely recommend every AD fan do that as there's so many little jokes and timelines to take in. But I'm excited to see how this season ends and don't see why it's getting so many disappointed reviews.
Definitely do, but make sure you pay attention to every moment because your sure to miss a joke or two if you don't.
I've only seen the first seven till now. Didn't want to binge watch all of it. GOB's episode was the best I'm still waiting for other old recurring jokes though. Like Annyong
It's getting disappointed reviews from people that wanted the exact same format to return. For many months prior to Season 4 the creator had said that this season would be about catching us up to each individual character and what they've been up to for the last 7 years. That's why each episode is character-centric. There's not the whole gang interacting with each other anymore. Past seasons also didn't have season-long story arcs. They'd pretty much start an arc and resolve it the same episode. This created snappy dialogue with an extreme pace to the story. Season 4 is like an 8 hour movie with a single, expansive story arc. The pace is a bit slower, but there's many different facets and angles to the story that keeps things tight for the most part. There's still snappy dialogue, but now there's also quite a lot of drawn out sequences or sequences that won't be funny or make sense until later episodes. It has many different forms of humor this way and it's not as obvious as past seasons (not that everything was obvious before). The way the story is told, however, is pure art. To somehow work that in while also combining it with all different types of humor is something that's never been done before. If you combined all the seasons of Louie you would come close. It's such a breath of fresh air to an entertainment industry that's mostly become stale. I can't help but marvel at the brilliance. Some fans might not like it because it's so different, but it most certainly has that same Arrested Development charm and feel. There's just so many different techniques used throughout the season that it might not always toot your horn. I found it all fascinating even when I wasn't laughing. It was too intriguing for me to feel any other way. Anyways, I've watched 1-7 for the second time and it's amazing how much you miss the first time. Everything is so layered and dense that it's impossible to realize all the cleverness you're being bombarded with. I'll probably finish the last half the next couple days. The first time through I thought the last half was the funniest stuff I've seen on the show.
It's THAT much better the second time around. When I initially started the season, I felt the first 3 episodes were very underwhelming because characters were acting completely unlike themselves and jokes just weren't making sense (at the time). Then, by the time I got to the end of the season, everything started making more sense. I think it's a great season and I can see myself watching it over and over, just like the other seasons. Somebody on Reddit re-edited the season to play out in chronological order. I may have to give that a whirl.
