Hey guys, STP fan here and trying to learn more about Linkin Park. Like probably all of you I was obsessed with Hybrid Theory when it came out. Fantastic album and I also enjoyed Meteora quite a bit and then it just ended for me. Haven't listened to any of their releases since then, obviously I've heard New Divide, What I've Done, Shadow of the Day etc and other radio hits, but nothing that made me want to listen to an entire album. Anyway being a huge STP fan us diehards get grumpy if people only know our hits and think Core is the best album they put out. They seem to miss what STP is about. In an effort for me not to be that person, how would you rank LP's albums and what songs do you feel are their strongest?
I would recommend that you listen to the album A Thousand Suns from start to finish. Whether a Linkin Park fan loves it or hates it (and there's a ton of both), that album is pretty much unanimously considered the band's most ambitious effort.
Listening to their albums in order isn't a half-bad idea ... but, then, of course us hardxcore fans would feel that way because that's how most of us experienced them. We have that context within which we appreciate the music. "A Thousand Suns" is the one you should probably spend the most time with, though, whatever order you want to hear Linkin Park's albums in. As a community, we generally don't mind if you turn up here when you've only heard "New Divide" or whatever, though we'd always like people to be open to checking out more of the band's music. All of us, at some point or another, were people who had only heard one or two Linkin Park songs.
Yeah, A Thousand Suns is their weirdest piece of work for sure. It will show you a side of Linkin Park you're certainly not familiar with Also, if you liked their first 2 records, you should check out their first release ever, an EP which is also called "Hybrid Theory". It shows where the band started, and there are definitely some pretty good songs on it. And some other songs I'd recommend you: - Qwerty (their heaviest song yet, and one of my personnal favorite) - The Little Things Give You Away (their longest song, and also one of the song the band is the most proud of) - Castle Of Glass + Skin To Bones + Victimized + Until It Breaks (the weirdest tracks from their last record, and they're all different from one to another )
Strongest post-Meteora songs: In Pieces Burning In The Skies When They Come For Me In My Remains Powerless
Hey guys thanks a lot with your help. I just got done with a thousand suns. I really enjoyed it sans the songs where Mike is heavily involved rapping (didn't so it for me). Initial thoughts are the start and finish of the album are the strong parts. Love The Messenger to end the album. Blackout is sick! I'm going to listen to the album again on my drive home later and write my thoughts. If you guys have any STP questions I'd be glad to answer them. I should prob start a thread on that. Started one FYI http://www.lpassociation.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38992&p=1249564#post1249564
Doing exactly what the title says: Albums: 1. A Thousand Suns 2. Hybrid Theory 3. Living Things 4. Minutes to Midnight 5. Meteora Top 5 songs: 1. The Catalyst - A Thousand Suns 2. Castle of Glass - Living Things 3. Points of Authority - Hybrid Theory 4. Iridescent - A Thousand Suns 5. What I've Done - Minutes to Midnight
Yeah. I'm personally a definite fan of Shinoda's rapping on anything post-Fort Minor but I understand that those LP songs are always kind of hit-and-miss with the members here and probably with the fanbase as a whole as well. In my opinion, Shinoda is among the elite when it comes to rapping as part of a band. I don't have a top five list for LP songs but my three top favourite Linkin Park songs are, in no particular order, "Waiting For The End", "Until It Breaks" and "New Divide".
Listen to A Thousand Suns as it's both the most diverse and experimental Linkin Park album, as well as the album that best represents their entire discography. Let me explain. If you like songs like The Messenger on ATS, Minutes to Midnight is a very good album. If you like songs like Wretches and Kings, you'd enjoy Meteora. If you like songs like When They Come For Me, you'd probably enjoy Hybrid Theory, Xero and Hybrid Theory EP, mostly anything in that era. Also, the album has it's own unique identity apart from everything prior to it with songs like The Catalyst, Jornada del Muerto, and Blackout. Either way, if there's something that you like on A Thousand Suns, there's bound to be something that you like on any other album due to its diversity.
Albums: A Thousand Suns Hybrid Theory Minutes to Midnight / Hybrid Theory EP Meteora Living Things Songs: The Little Things Give You Away The Catalyst Waiting For the End When They Come For Me With You Papercut And One Blackout Pushing Me Away (remix) No Roads Left In Pieces
Actually everything is already said. But personally I enjoy pre-Hybrid Theory stuff. Someone mentioned the EP. Some real old skool stuff.
Here's how I ran the albums: A Thousand Suns Minutes to Midnight Reanimation Hybrid Theory Living Things Meteora
A Thousand Suns Reanimation Minutes to Midnight Hybrid Theory Living Things Meteora As far as individual songs go from each album, including songs not on studio releases I would check out Blackout, I Have Not Begun, High Voltage (the original from the HTEP), The Little Things Give You Away, In Between, P5hng Me A*wy, My December, Until It Breaks, When They Come For Me, and Leave Out All the Rest.
A Thousand Suns - Reanimation Minutes to Midnight Hybrid Theory Living Things Everything else Meteora
I saw it coming Be aware that this forum counts a scary number of Meteora haters / ATS fanatics, and isn't representative of the opinion of the LP fanbase as a whole. I'd even say the majority opinion in this forum is a minority opinion in the whole fanbase. Hybrid Theory A Thousand Suns Meteora Minutes To Midnight Living Things

I know what you mean, with STP most of the fan base would say Core/Purple and the forum mostly says Tiny music an Shangri la dee da. Deftones usually adrenaline/ATF the boards Diamond Eyes and Koi No Yokan. If you take the time to post on a fan forum you are probably a bigger fan than most. Btw on my third listen today. A thousand Suns is really good! When they come for me seems out of place. Can't get into Wretches and Kings either. The rest is badass!
