So as the title indicates, i want to hear about some of your favorite bands/musicians from your own country. I find it very interesting to hear music outside the popular stuff from USA/UK. I can start, i am from Denmark. Nephew: Electronic rock, sings both in Danish and English http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OY9eTihrKM0 Volbeat: Hard rock, sings in English http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Wz09yHXheU Zeitgeist: Alternative/rap/pop, sings in both Danish and English http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8tG_XNhDM9M&feature=channel&list=UL The Dreams: Punk rock/Punk pop, sings in both Danish and English http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gG__TopapNs
Belgium here dEUS: Selah Sue: School Is Cool: Flip Kowlier (flemish rap) Absynth Minded:
Well, I am from Germany and in my opinion the Germans aren't good musicians But I like this one:
Well, imo there are some pretty good German musicians/bands: Die Toten Hosen (Punk Rock): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j09hpp3AxIE Sportfreunde Stiller (Rock): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EFvuOpRzkv0 (unplugged version) Beatsteaks (Rock/Punk): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2T-_7atmX-0 La Brass Banda (Ska/Rock): they're actually from Bavaria, hence the singer's strong dialect^^ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4ZhdfOU6sY Mono & Nikitaman (Reggea, Dancehall): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oNYjZWIZFHU Irie Revoltes (Reggea Dancehall): Their lyrics are in German and French http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cCd2Sf8VMkM + some great rappers: Samy Deluxe, Kool Savas, Blumentopf, Casper, Marteria/Marsimoto, Prinz Pi etc. ... (just look them up on youtube) Not to forget that Rammstein is extremely popular, not only in Germany, but even worldwide (though I personally hate them)
Coming from a third world ghetto-ass country, the closest I can come to music from my country is a band from California with a Cambodian singer (which makes more sense since I was born in Cali and am Cambodian):
Being from America, the list of bands is large. So I'll narrow it down to home city and post my favorite band from St. Louis. Cavo - Thick As Thieves Fun fact: I work about 3 blocks from where that video was shot and my work building makes a very brief appearance. I have also dined at the TGI Fridays, St. Louis Bread Company (Panera bread) and Hardees directly underneath the pedestrian overpass where some parts were filmed at.
I will go with my state as well: Devotchka. I'm not sure how well these guys are know outside the state but they did score the movie Little Miss Sunshine and I believe the theme (though it might have just been the trailer) for gears of war. so they have to be fairly well known. Anyways, I love them. They have a very International folk sound. Also Jello Biafra from dead kennedys is a local. Flobots and the fray are ok. Rise against is from Chicago but they record in fort Collins and often say Colorado is like a second home so I'm gonna go ahead and take credit for them too
De fuck, Kasabian have a song called "Thick as Thieves." Vatra, Ramirez (they broke up though ), S3ngs, Opća Opasnost, Sane.
Yeah, pretty much! Some more, some less, but all of them are good in their own way. (I have a broad taste in music)
Meh, and meh. Pretty much everything about Colonia annoys me, and Hladno Pivo is really more a band you can laugh at when they're on TV, at least to me... Sane had that one song, cover of Dino Dvornik, it was pretty awesome...
Eskimo Joe: "New York", "How Does It Feel" Knife Party: "Tourniquet", "Bonfire" The Living End: "Bloody Mary", "State Of Emergency" And some others I wouldn't necessarily consider favourites of mine but which are still worthy of consideration: Dead Letter Circus: "Wake Up" Gotye: "Eyes Wide Open" Karnivool: "Set Fire To The Hive" Shockone: "The Sun" Tame Impala: "Apocalypse Dreams"
The State of Washington here. We literally rock! Death Cab For Cutie (Indie): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVNAljC2kKM The Postal Service (Electronic): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0wrsZog8qXg (technically LA i guess but it was recorded in LA and Seattle) Nirvana (Grunge): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTWKbfoikeg Foo Fighters (Rock): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBG7P-K-r1Y Alice in Chains (Metal, Rock): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zTuD8k3JvxQ Soundgarden (Grunge-ish): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0_zzCLLRvE Pearl Jam (Rock): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qM0zINtulhM Heart (Rock): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xnNmdB95CA0 Jimmy Hendrix (Rock): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kE3FAY-NOiU MxPx (Punk): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8jw48w96d94 The Presidents of the United States of America (Rock): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VvcohzJvviQ Macklemore (Rap): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPIqDBM0zd8 NoClue (Ricky Brown) [Rap]: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDqKDf-PCMM (holds record for the fastest rapper ever)
I dislike most german artists but here are a few songs from bands/musicians i like: Emil Bulls: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3lZNWbjUA9Q Heaven Shall Burn: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ugEYBIWgwM4 Kool Savas: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xKF45TvUVw Prinz Pi: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dcfXE9jaCUo I will add other songs in the next days.
