nu-metal is just an over-used term to label bands

In fact, yes, because Linkin Park have never tried that before. If the guitar solos are too long some people may find them dull and uninteresting, thus losing album sales and fans to buy albums. If they're brilliantly done, then they may gain some fans from the metal region. The last thing I'm sure LP wants is more 13 year old girls who worship them because "d3y are sooo hawt!!!11!", so crank up the solos! It is a risk, because they've never tried it before and people may or may not like them. A faster riff will not turn people away from an album, neither will a diced up riff that most of the fans don't know the story behind it.

And In.My.Skin, I think you misinterpreted what I said. I said LP have more potential, but ti's all getting watered down by a producer (Don Gilmore) to become more mainstream and successful. I can bet the first chorus of SIB was better than the 40th. LP need to produce their next album by themselves.

Brad messed up while playing that song and I don't even think it's that hard to play. Still, I'm not doubting his abilities but you get my point.

My friend's lost alot of respect for LP when they heard that. They always mention it and make fun of Brad whenever the topic of Linkin Park comes up. I don't care though, it was just a mistake, Brad's a great guitarist.

I don't agree with Casey on the whole image look, who cares about how they look? As long as they're not dressing up in pink leotards with halloween masks, I'm ok with that.

I just want LP to go all out on the next album, try new things. They can't let their work be watered down. Just make it raw.

I didn't mean what you said. Someone (I think the thread starter) said that LP had absolutely no talent at all. I agree with you about the SIB chorus, and I imagine that the first was probably the best, and that Don just stripped it down to practicaly nothing.

To the sweet o child of mine mess up...
What did he mess up on? Cause I never noticed it, I'm not trying to be a smart ass, I just wanna know where so I can hear it.

    J.Money:
Your right, LP doesn't consider themself numetal. Brad doesn't even consider them rock.
Also, I don't understand what the f.uck numetal is, so since everyone says thats what they are, thats what I go with. I don't like labels (music industry wise or type of music wise) but since I don't know what to call them besides Linkin Park, I just said that.

Haha, you don't sound like one. :)

At around 20 seconds into the song, Brad repeats a couple of chords and then messes it up again 5 seconds. If you put on headphones, you can hear Mike cracking up and saying "or you can listen to Brad play Guns and Roses" after Chester says "that's a couple of kickass shows right there". Then Chester ends it to be nice because if that had continued, Brad might've been hit by a few items.

Look, it really is this simple... Linkin Park are a Boy Band - you know, like N Sync or Blue. The difference is that they make music that is always interesting and worth listening to, in a very pleasant your-mother-would-like it way. They fulfil the role of the pop act in that they are photogenic and pleasing on the ear, but their purpose and focus is not raw experimentation.

I'm probably considerably older and more jaded than your average poster. It's basically like this: watch enough Peter Greenaway movies and you'll be crawling on your hands and knees to see the latest Schwarzenegger shoot-em-up. Linkin Park are the rock band for people sick to the back teeth of Skinny Puppy...

J-Flex, if you're not going to play nicely, I'll make you go stand in the corner...

Seriously, guys, I thought somebody was asking a question and inviting discussion? To the question, "why no guitar solos?", a possible answer is, "it's not part of the genre", whatever the genre appears to be called this month.

To the question, "why not too much experimentation?", a possible answer is, "it might alienate their fanbase, many of which have tired of listening to overblown, pretentious "experimental" bands and would frankly rather listen to undemanding yet interesting music by pleasant-seeming pretty boys"...

Linkin Park isn't a boy band, they weren't maufactured.

Nsync and them aren't boy bands anyway, they're boy groups.

No, I suppose it is rather cruel to describe Linkin Park as a boy band (as they are called in the UK), although their clean-cut, pleasant personas and conventional good looks would put them in a class apart from, say, Marilyn Manson.

I'm sure that Linkin Park weren't actually manufactured - though the rumour very strongly persists that the name of the band was strongly recommended by the record label, who wanted the band's records placed behind Limp Bizkit's in the record store - all part of the cunning and quite successful plan to walk off with their entire fan base...

    I've never heard that before.

Back when they were writing and recording demos for Hybrid Theory, Chester would drive by Lincoln Park in Santa Monica. Since they were in the process of changing their name anyway, he suggested it to the others and they liked it. They just changed the spelling to get the domain name.

Why do you persist on limiting Linkin Park to one genre and not letting them branch out into others to evolve?

And don't call Linkin Park a boy band, for pete's sake. They're not Lou Pearlman puppets. You should learn the history of the band before you start labeling them as something they're not.

That first sentence was TOTALLY lame, stop acting like a superior know-at-all

Now to your points. You say people are tired of listening to 'overblown, pretentious experimental bands'. Actually, the OPPOSITE trend is happening. People are listening to more formulaic music now. And isn't experimenting the ######'' reason to make music? Its an ART, not a business....And you didn't actually answer the question of the thread, do you like guitar solos? Nope, you came here to show us how much smarter you are than everyone else. No respect to anyones opinions, nothing...

And its their music that matters, not their image. So how about you and your 'boy bands' hitch off to another message board to whine. :wth:
