Only to realize those same sources cite Burn It Down as "classic Linkin Park", "a familiar throwback to the old style", and other things that aren't quite accurate and then get sort of bummed out? Seems like some of these guys have a tendency to exaggerate things to a fairly hilarious degree.

Anyone else get that? Just me? Come discuss.

I think they just mean the "classic LP single" format as far as simple song structure, catchy, etc.

I didn't necessarily interpret their comments as "Burn It Down is like the old LP with heavy guitars and layered vocals" because they never got that specific. They just always call it "classic LP" and "anthemic" and move on.

BID is good, but I'm not in love with it. I think OSC, SIB, WID and TC were all stronger first singles. Some people may love it though, and consider it a LP classic.

Me too. All the reviews are great, but this exaggeration for ''Burn It Down'' is what makes me unconfident about the quality of the album. I mean, the song is not bad, but it is not that special as they say.

BiD is a terrible song and hasn't grown on me one bit since that initial listen. And yes, the sources that go rapturous over this track are discouraging.

You guys also realize that politics play a role in this as well...

A magazine isn't going to print (especially if it's a pre-release review... where most of these writers were PERSONALLY invited by the band to come preview tracks) negative reviews. They're not going to say positive things about all the tracks and then be like 'Yeah, but that new single of theirs that needs promotion is kind of bland'

That would halter the magazine/writers chance at being offered the chance to preview tracks like this, before an albums release.

This is all promotion for LP. The negative reviews will come after the album is released.

I honestly don't like BID like I do with most LP songs. I'm not sure why. It just lacks energy to me. Which is surprising since the band claims it to be a ''high energy'' song, as well as many LP fans do. Like, the guitars are there, yeah, but not in the way I would like. I like the sound of real drums (not computerized beats and sampled drums), and the sound of real guitar. I don't like how LP has become so over electronic with their music that every song has that feel to it. I hope there are at least some songs on the album that sound absolutely NOTHING like BID in the least bit. Some of the descriptions have me really pumped for this album (CASTLE OF GLASS, VICTIMIZED, IN MY REMAINS) for example.

Thinking as an optimist for the moment, hopefully BID is the closest song to "classic LP" on Living Things and the rest are totally different. Although I doubt that this is the case, it would be awesome if it were.

It's just to build hype. I'll be buying the album regardless.

I'm not overly hot on BiD, but it is solid. As history shows us, LP's lead singles (with exception of The Catalyst) are far from the best songs on the album. I'm pumped for LT either way though.

BiD sounds like a playschool theme track. The first half a minute is laughable.

I'm not saying "Wait a minute.... Burn it Down isn't a classic at all! Anyone else notice that?!", it's about being skeptical of the other songs when the same sources discuss them. I know there was that thing where Mike called half of them false or misleading or whatever, but it seems like people are still taking them to heart not really thinking about how wildly incorrect they could (and I guess already have) been. Which isn't to say it's stupid to get psyched, that's fine.

When I read all these magazines/blogs reviewing BID under a good light I started taking their opinions on the other songs in the album with a pinch of salt.

BID is just so bland and boring! What's weird is it has some really interesting things going on in it but as a whole it's just not that good.

I personally disagree. I feel TC was on of the weaker songs of ATS, and SIB and WID weren't the weakest but weren't the strongest, they were somewhere in the middle
