why doesnt Mike ever write like that anymore, has he lost his touch, the last verse of "And One" when he is rapping "Spit falls from the lip of the witless witness..." and so on, is some of the best rapping i have heard, the rhyming paterns and words he chooses are genius! but i dont se that level of gratness in hybrid theory or meteora, do yuo guys think he has lost it?
Because, he doesn't need to work that hard to make millions and be popular. Its that simple....unfortunate, but thats THE TRUTH of it....
I think it's a shame though, not to see rapping like that. It would be cool to see it appear again, even in one or two songs
It would be nice to hear him rise to his potential next time around. Hybrid Theory had good lyrics from him, but Meteora was very disappointing....We can only wait and hope!
Meteora was very dissapointing as far as Mikes lyrics go, but everything else was cool. I wonder what Meteora would sound like with more rapping from the EP days
That would be interesting! Hey Brokenfist, you and Tkd are using the same avatar . Did you copy/paste his?

In my honest opinion I think It's Going Down had some very well crafted verses and you know why? Don Gilmore didn't touch it. Don gilmore is responsible for the watering down of LP's lyrics as Mike has even complained about it. Easy solution to that? Produce your own #### from this day forward. Perhaps I'm not right but I believe Mike produced It's Going Down, and the vocabulary he uses on that is outstanding. Then you have that nice flow at the end of And One...on an album in which MIKE produced. See the pattern? I sure as hell do. LP needs to do things on thier own, it's the only way they'll remain true to thier creative juices.
That's why 'It's Going Down' is good. <!--QuoteBegin--Derek@Dec 30 2003, 10:32 PM Easy solution to that? Produce your own #### from this day forward. And if someone doesn't know what colloquialism means, tell them to pick up a f*cking dictionary. No need to change every word in the song to one of its inadequate synonyms.
I think I heard on the Making of Meteora that Don didn't know much about the hip-hop side, so he left it to Mike, but then you see Don telling Mike there's a problem with the lyrics. That's what confuses me... They say Don doesn't know the rap world, so he leaves it to Mike, but in the end, Don makes Mike change it? I'm not sure, but if this is how it went, then... What the hell?! Yeah, I do believe Mike's older lyrics really show the greatness of hip hop music within LP, and I think Mike needs more of that in their upcoming album(s).
Well, I assume Mike writes more that just his raps and that Gilmore had some hand in f*ucking those parts up. (Though I think Gilmor snuck into the studio late one night and screwed up Nobody's Listening).
I don't think Mike has lost his ability to rap like he used to... it's still in him somewhere.. but man.. that dude is great, he brings the hip hop vibe really well into LP.. and it would be better if LP did things by their own rules to stick with the "LP Sound". But hopefully in their upcoming albums his raw rap verses will come back alive again.. listening to him in the EP and in "It's Going Down" is crazy... ^^
It's Goin' Down was amazing... Yeah, Gilmore is very restrictive... He just kills the creativity of LP... But what can we do? It's their choice to do something with him.
anyone ever notice that on Hybrid Theory and Meteora, Chester always has one or two songs that he does alone, without Mike? Why not do the same for Mike this time around?
NO! I honestly think that Mike should produce the next album. The only thing I'm afraid of is if Mike will make it sound too hip hop just like what he did with reanimation, but thats a different story.
I actually would love to hear Mike sing by himself on a few songs. It would be interesting and different, which is good.
Yeah, Mike has a great voice and should definitely do some solo singing on the next album. I wouldn't say that he's lost his touch as a rapper...he is still one of the best ones out there...but I do think he has room to grow and become even better.
