Civil War vet John Carter is transplanted to Mars, where he discovers a lush, wildly diverse planet whose main inhabitants are 12-foot tall green barbarians. Finding himself a prisoner of these creatures, he escapes, only to encounter Dejah Thoris, Princess of Helium, who is in desperate need of a savior "For me, the most exciting thing about this film is bringing to the screen finally the granddaddy of all sci-fi films. Without Edgar Rice Burroughs and John Carter, there would be no Superman, no Star Wars, no Avatar, no Dune, the list is endless," - John Purefoy. Looks great, and is deserving of more attention.
Indeed. Disney's marketing has been terrible for this. You've got the director of Finding Nemo & Wall-E, with the great granddaddy of Sci-fi (which inspired the likes of Star wars & Avatar) + a $250+ million dollar budget, yet a couple of weeks from release there's virtually no buzz for it.... The fan trailer is what sold it for me, believe it or not.
I don't know. I kind of want to see it, but I have a feeling it's probably not going to blow me away, much like Tron Legacy.
It looks like a mash up of Prince of Persia, Star Wars and Avatar. And yes, I know John Carter has been around since way before all the 3 films I just mentioned. It just feels like its a little late to the party.
The original novel was called "The Princess of Mars". Any Better? Indeed, I hope it doesn't share the same fate "Green Lantern" had, which created/inspired so many things yet the audiences ultimately "had seen it all before" I was lucky enough to attend a preview screening of John Carter. And I can say its very impressive, spectacular effects. Yet having see it AFTER Avatar, does hurt it. A earthman gets transported to another world, is first shunned as a outcast, has to prove himself then is embraced as a hero and saves the princess. So don't go in expecting anything ground-breaking. just enjoy the ride, and remember John Carter came first!
That one is better, but it most likely wouldn't appeal to people, so they swapped it for a more "manly" but yet shittier name.
Yeah, it sounds like a "Get Carter" sequel or something They should have gone with "John Carter of Mars" IMO.
10 minute extended clip Looking good to me, didn't even feel like 10 minutes.
