I didn't hear anything here about this, so many people doesn't even know... I just looked up more about that crap and it's unbelieveable.
Is there a day set in which this should happen -if it passes? What day is it?

I'm terrified. But like someone else said, I don't expect the bill to pass with the giants that are on the opposition. Though, we never know.

The DOJ can shut down any site in the world. They did it to Full Tilt Poker, which is where I played for a living, and they aren't even located in the US. They are located overseas. The site had to change its address just so foreign players could keep playing. This was like 7 months ago.

If this passes, expect to see me standing federal trial within a year of it going into effect, as I'm not the least bit afraid of taunting the government to come and get me. If I have to effectively martyr myself to show people how idiotic this bill is, then so be it.

Says a man from a country where the judicial system works rather well.
    Good luck!

If this were to happen in my country (and I don't think it ever would), the courts would be the last way to deal.

The justice system does NOT work well in America trust me.

When pedophiles (my neighbor) can stay 11 just months in prison for sexually assaulting a little girl, but someone who sells pot is guaranteed at least 35 years if not more, it's clear this country's justice system doesn't work for crap. And the worst part is that our politicians don't even care enough to fix it.

I don't want to start a debate in here (thats for Serious Chat), but if our fucking government would spend more money chasing pedophiles/murderers and stop focusing on their war on drugs, or locking people up for downloading a damn movie...our country probably wouldn't be in a recession. We waste so much money chasing after people who's worst offense was lighting up a joint, instead of going after who we should be going after.

And even worse? If Marijuana was legalized, taxed and regulated (pretty much like cigarettes, which are far more deadly and dangerous), it'd be an instant million if not billion dollar industry and could revive our economy. It's disgusting.

That frustrates me the most about western society too. Even in the UK, you see these child molesters, rapists and murderers getting a fraction of the sentence they deserve, yet phone hackers, and basically anything to do with stolen or swindled money is an automatic life sentence.

its backwards. Sure everything mentioned here is bad, and no one should escape justice for breaking the law, but some cases are far more serious than others a deserve the full attention. (especially inquests taking 6 months or more to begin? wtf!?) but that's a whole different story...

This thread worries me. If this goes to pass, where will it stop? will every amateur/fan made video on youtube be taken down just cause there happens to be a song playing in the background or a can of Pepsi on display? and what about Facebook? will the fan page of LPA be taken down there too? same with LPLive and every other fan site for anything really. Its instantly that's what it is.

    Fuck the police!

No but seriously, I watched that video posted on the first page, and this is a serious censorship issue. My dad works for the state of California in the DOJ so I'll be asking him about it to see what he knows. Very interesting (albeit fucked up) stuff.

If you didn't know, there's been a House judiciary meeting on SOPA today.

So far, it seems all proposed amendments for the bill have been shot down time and again. Amendments which would make this bill less threatening to the internet and to free speech and uncensorship.

Some links (I don't know if the meeting is still going but if it is you can watch it here)
    http://servercorps.com

A reddit user that attended the meeting.

And for the people who don't think this has a chance of passing, you're wrong. The chance is very real and it does NOT only affect America, it harms all the internet, as if this passes then it will harm internet security, such as DNS and as well making proxies and programs like Tor illegal. Also, who's to say the abuse won't go as far as if you post on a blog about your opposition to the new law that it won't be immediately shut down?

Thanks to the efforts of people like you, discussions have collapsed on SOPA and the vote will be delayed until next year. Although, the vote is still proposed to happen next year, this delay is a victory for internet activists as quoting huffingtonpost.com: "The deeper into 2012 the vote on the bill is pushed back, the more likely the legislation is to die in an election year." However; we must continue to promote internet freedom in America, and remind our congressmen that corporations cannot own this country. The fuckers are re-convening next Wednesday. Start calling/writing your congresspeople again. Hollywood is determined to make this bill pass and they're padding the wallets of senators/elected officials to make it happen.

I was just about to post, "Think Again, Derek." in response to this bill being postponed. http://www.techdirt.com/articles/20...runs-out-time-likely-delayed-until-2012.shtml

The irony of this bill is, that it's actually going to make the entertainment industry lose money rather than help them make any. The world has just changed too much in terms of how people pursue entertainment and people are not going to easily go back to spending $20+ on an album that they can't preview before they buy or pay 10+ to watch a piece of shit movie in a theater that plays an hour of advertisements.

That, AND it's going to stifle online innovation and advertisement. All those videos on Youtube? They're just free Ads for the industry but they're too stupid to realize it.

Also, their stubbornness has blinded them, according to both German, Canadian, and Swiss research piracy helps make more money than non-piracy. But piracy isn't even the point, this bill is just going to fuck up everything and everyone and every business. Large ones and small ones alike, because, business is reliant on the internet and this bill would break it beyond use!

I think if they made digital albums cheaper the music industry would be a lot better off. The fact that digital albums cost just as much and in some cases more than physical CD's is ridiculous. A 12 song digital album should be in the $5-$7 range, not $10+.

Hollywood and the rest of the entertainment industry is getting desperate, and this just proves it. By going through all of this effort to very obviously force the government's hand, they're risking pretty much every chance they have on this bill passing next Wednesday.
