So many of us here on the LPA are guilty of accusing a band or an album or a song of having lyrics that are sub par. I want to know what you guys think are good lyrics. They can be from any band. Please include the lyrics and/or a link to a video or the song. Mods, if you think this would work better in Random Chat, please feel free to move it. Get sharing some good writing! PLEASE INCLUDE THE BAND AND SONG NAME OF THE LYRICS YOU POSTED! Also, we would like to hear the song that these lyrics are coming from. Please provide a link. Furthermore, if there is a part to a song that you find incredibly appealing, post just that part. If you can't help but to post all song awesomeness, then so be it. At least try to make the thread readable. Lastly, please be respectful to everyone's musical tastes.
My favorite lines are from Black by Pearl Jam: I know someday you'll have a beautiful life, I know you'll be a star In somebody else's sky. So powerful
Bands I'd say generally have good lyrics would be Thrice, Every Time I Die, The Gaslight Anthem, The Hold Steady, Deftones I'll post specific songs later Come to think of it Horrible Crowes lyrics >>>>>>>>>> Gaslight Anthem lyrics
If we're the flagship of peace and prosperity We're taking on water and about to fucking sink No one seems to notice, no one even blinks The crew all left the passengers to die under the sea Countdown to the very end Equality, an invitation that we won't extend Ready, aim, pull the trigger now It's time you firmly secure your place in hell State of the union address Reads war torn country still a mess The words: power, death, and distorted truth Are read between the lines of the red, white, and blue Countdown to the very end Equality, an invitation that we won't extend Ready, aim, pull the trigger now It's time you firmly secure your place in hell Your place in hell Your place in hell Guilty is what our graves will read, No year, no family, we did nothing To stop the murder of people just like us

All of The Shins lyrics, seriously. For now: Split Needles. Mine's Not a High Horse and, Pressed in a Book
Everything right after the spoken part is just beautiful.
I tried so hard and got so far but in the end it doesn't even matter. ...maybe someday I'll come back and reply seriously to this thread
Immediately thought of Eyedea and Abilities and this particular song. RIP Eyedea! A prince in practice moans for the attention that he wants but most of this town won't even dignify his ignorance with a response left to a crowded foster home by a 15 year old mom never been held in anyone's arms when you've never been moved its really hard to move on A young saleswoman sets up shop when the sun sets she'll make your wildest dreams come true at a price you wont forget The sadly married set up alibis no harm no regret hoping they meet an angel in bed that can wrestle the devil right out of their heads This city runs fast, no one has time to sit with themselves,no time to look into our pain or see the same despair in everyone else its here, its there, its everywhere tears soak each card the dealers dealt But time taught me how to see every second as heaven even though they're perfectly disguised as hell And I refuse to let past bruises cover the light it ain't all good, but its all good enough, so I know I'm alright agony is truth its our connection to the living I accept it as perfection and keep on existing in the now I can only build if I tear the walls down even if it breaks me I wont let it make me frown I'm falling but no matter how hard I hit the ground I'll still smile I can only build if I tear the walls down even if it breaks me I wont let it make me frown I'm falling but no matter how hard I hit the ground I'll still smile ...ear to ear as if that's all I'm here for despite the wars founded by the rich, funded by the poor kids barely 18 are dying so billionaires can make more elsewhere hungry mothers watch their babies starve to death in a beat up shack on a dirt floor The aged professor quotes "Freedom's without a path" now he dresses like a widow and preaches "love is dead" in every class But curiosity killed the cat and taught the dog in him how to act and it burned his bridge to Jill so he tries to drown the guilt with a bottle of Jack Self proclaimed rebels say "We must oppose the system!" "You gotta take a stand!" "If your not against them your with them!" signs read "Support the troops bring em' home!" "No more innocent victims!" but when a homeless veteran asks for spare change your to busy protesting to even listen And I'm no different I live in conflict and contradiction but it can be so beautiful when I don't reject what lies within It's beautiful the way agony connects us to the living I think of the world when I hurt, and keep on existing in the now I can only build if I tear the walls down even if it breaks me I wont let it make me frown I'm falling but no matter how hard I hit the ground I'll still smile I can only build if I tear the walls down even if it breaks me I wont let it make me frown I'm falling but no matter how hard I hit the ground I'll still smile.
This thread is incredibly hard to use, can we get a rule that if you post a link to the song you only post like one stanza of the lyrics or something. Too much scrolling lol. ~4:30 it's all in my head i said banging a piano i've not been so alone i thought since kicking in the womb i drank so much tea i wrote my letters in kanji around the block i walked and walked pretending you were with me You can buy a salad glove, you can buy an iPod And you can sell that shit to Bookmans when your wife dies and you lose your job You can hope it gets better, you can follow your dreams But hope is for presidents and dreams are for people who are sleeping
Really though, you can name practically any Thrice song, especially from The Alchemy Index onwards, and it probably has really good lyrics.
This will forever remain as one of the best songs I've ever heard. Lupe Fiasco personifying corruption and rapping from it's perspective. GENIUS! I taught them better than that I taught them aim for the head And hope they never come back I'm glad your daddy's gone, baby, Hope he never comes back, I hope he's with your mother, With my hustlers high in my trap (lemme put you on game) I hope you die in his trash, I can't help it all I hear when you're crying is laughs I'm sure somebody find you tied up in this bag, Behind the hospital little baby, Crack addicts had (lemme put you on game) Then maybe you can grow up to be a stripper, A welfare-receiving prostitute And gold digger, You can watch on TV, How they should properly depict you, The rivers should flow with liqour, Quench your thirst on my elixers, (lemme put you on game) I am the safe haven for the rebel runaway and the resistor Ihe trusted misleader, The number one defender, And from a throne of their bones I rule, These fools are my fuel So I make them Cool (lemme put you on game) Baptize them in the water out of Scarface pool, And feed 'em from the table that held Corleone's food, If you die, tell them that you played my game I hope your bullet holes become mouths that say my name, 'Cause I'm the... One of my personal favorites. flash that buttery gold, jittery zeitgeist wither by the watering hole, border patrol what are we to heart huckabee art fuckery suddenly? not enough young in his lung for the waterwing colorfully vulgar poacher outta mulch like "i'm 'a pull the pulse out a soldier and bolt" fine sign of the time we elapse when a primate climb up a spine and attach eye for an eye by the bog like swamps and vines they get a rise out of frogs and flies so when a dog-fight's hog-tied prize sorta costs a life their mouths water on a fork and knife and the allure isn't right, no score on a war torn beach where the cash cow's actually beef blood turns wine when it leak for police like "that's not a riot it's a feast, let's eat!" CHORUS: and i will remember your name and face on the day you are judged by the funhouse cast and i will rejoice in your fall from grace with a cane through the sky like "none shall pass" high, aah, fly me up high! x2 none shall pass aah, fly me up high! x2 none shall pass if you never had a day a snow cone couldn't fix you wouldn't relate to the rogue vocoder blitz how he spoke through a no-doz motor on the fritz cause he wouldn't play roll over fetch like a bitch and express no regrets, though he isn't worth a homeowner's piss to the jokers who pose by the glitz. fine sign of the swine in the swarm when a king is a whore who comply and conform miles outside of the eye of the storm with a siphon to lure out a prize and award while avoiding the vile and bazaar that is violence and war true blue triumph is more like wait, let it snake up outta the centerfold let it break the walls of jericho ready? go! sat where the old cardboard city folk swap tales with heads like every other penny throw Chorus "you tried to trick me you've gotta lot of nerve" "i'm not trying to trick you i'm -trust me- i'm -trust me- i'm trying to help" okay, woke to a grocery list goes like this: duty and death anyone object come stand in the way you could be my little snake river canyon today and i ran with a chain of commands and a jet pack strap where the back-stab lands if it can fine sign of the vibe in the crowd when i cut her belly open to find what climb out what a bit of gusto he muster up to make a dark horse rush like enough is enough it musta struck a nerve so they huff and puff 'til all the king's men fluster and clusterfuck and it's a beautiful thing to my people who keep an impressive wingspan even when the cubicle shrink you gotta pull up the intruder by the root of the weed NY chew thru the machine Chorus "i'm trying to help"

Thrice is so amazing for all their lyrics but this is my contribution to the thread: The Greener Grass by Fair To Midland Tall Tales Taste Like Sour Grapes by Fair To Midland You really can't go wrong with Fair To Midland. on first listen, the lyrics seem kind of weird but when you sit and really listen to the song, the lyrics hit you harder than a ton of bricks. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE their writing. Lots of meaning to them.
