Hello all, I thought we could come into this thread here and talk about LP's songs and maybe compile a list of sorts of how each band member contributed to them. For instance, a few months back, Mike mentioned on his blog that he came up with the main guitar riff for "Papercut." Also, what songs do members of LP enjoy playing which do they dislike performing? For instance, I believe Rob mentioned in an LPU newsletter (2.0 or 3.0) that he enjoyed playing Easier To Run live the most. I thought this might be interesting because it seems like information that's hard to come across.
Mike is Alpha and Omega of Linkin Park. He is the mastermind. I don't know about previous stuff, but ATS is pretty much his album. But, that's just my opinion...
Iheard that too and was kind of disappointed that he dislikes runaway so much, I think he's said Crawling is his favorite though
In previous albums he was "The Glue" that held the band together. He was the common thread between each band member, and they worked in pairs for Meteora at least. The band recorded demos at his house for all four records (with the exception of Rob's drums, who he rents a space for). He knows pro-tools on top of the other instruments he knows. He's got more guitars than Brad does. I'm pretty sure if he were hit by a bus the whole band should change their name again. Crawling he also said was singing one, long note, and it made him a little tired.
haha it is exhausting, people look at me funny when I'm singing it in the car and I'll get winded. They hear a horrible screaming only to look over and see me hunched over breathing heavily XD
All band members bring in seeds. Just a large portion of the decision process stuff either happens at his house or a professional studio or something.
Mike and Chester need each-other lyrically imho. While Mike is the driving force of band and responsible for a lot of the creativity and strong lyrics of the band, Chester brings a lot to the table as well. Judging by DBS...I'd be willing to say Chester brings the more emotional aspect, while Mike brings the metaphors and strong vocabulary. Like Lennon and McCartney, they both made decent music solo, but they were at their strongest when they worked together. The same applies here.
I know Chester hates performing Runaway, and he loves performing Papercut and Breaking The Habit, he has said that in an interview. I know his favorite album LP has made would be ATS, but the whole band pretty much says that. Mike IS the mastermind of LP, he brings everything together and LP would not be LP without Mike, that's for sure. Chester brings emotional music and singing to LP, he also brings aggressive singing and screaming. He can pull off both, which is awesome.
Well for starters Brad brings alot of things to the table as well. Eg. Hands held high was mostly his creation. The Messenger I'm sure was mostly chester. But yes, for most of the time, Mike is the key in member in song writing. BTH, My December, in the end, where all mikes own work.
Chester brings the vocal passion, and Mike brings the musical acumen. Together, they combine like Voltron to make a giant robot that tramples cities, fights aliens, and sells diamond albums.
i think it's better that the whole band gets involved with the song writing process i think they wanted to do that with ATS and it was BIG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SUCCESS
I know the lyrics are kind of a collaborative thing between mike Chester. Brad writes music and produces with mike some. So to say mike is the end all be all is a little overkill for me. but he is obviously the biggest influence in the band
