I dunno if this is fine to post here...but anyways..i've a problem..its been a long time...since i've wrtten any songs or poems..and now whenever i try..i end up wid something not-so-gud ... this situation might have arisen to some of you as well..any ideas to help me...?? thanks
I don't think there's any general solution to this.. You just have to keep trying and believe it's gonna come back
I got a few tips: Hanging with a few friends. Consider a new structure / method Listen to music. Read a book. Consider a new style/genre of poems. Ie: Happy poems to imagery poems (My favorite haha), or sad poems to epic poems, love poems to courageous poems. Etc... Reflect on your old stuff. Watch a TV series. Listen to some old tales about when a few adults in your life were young. (Like my grandpa used to be a gun-slinger, doctor, acupuncturist, war veteran.) Thought of any fantasy tales? Write about them! Try writing a short story instead of a song or poem. If you have an idea, or a setting you have in mind, its great.
Being a rapper I do the following things to get out of blocks: - Go back to songs I haven't heard in a while - Watch slam poetry videos - Listen an album I've never heard before - Try to isolate myself from other thoughts (I've come to realize that a lot of the times, writer's block happens when my mind is preoccupied with other thoughts/worries). - Go through beats! If the right beat hits the ears, it'll trigger my creative senses to go nuts! - Sometimes an automatic swing in mood does the trick... but that obviously doesn't happen all the time.
For music - Listen to music outside of the genre you generally play in and take note of what is those artists do and try to adapt them to your genre - If you play guitar, learn a new scale and play around with it until you come up with a new riff (this is my favorite method)
thanks a lot everyone,i've tried a few of the above methods, and its worked to some good extent, will shortly hope to put something nice up here for starters
happens to me too sometimes..better to let go my anger in words instead of letting it out on some person..
If I were me, I'd just go through and write anyway, even if it sucks. "All of you here have one hundred thousand bad drawings in you. The sooner you get rid of them, the better it will be for everyone."
Want to get out of a writing block? Move to another street. Get it? Or trying writing in a new format (e.g. short story, journal, blog post).
Sorry that I'm not actually contributing to the thread, but I find it funny that Omar, the founder of LPA, just comes in out of no where and makes a little joke in a random thread .
This isn't the best method if you're writing with some sort of a deadline but what I'll do when I have writer's block is to take a complete break from writing. The length of time varies. I've taken a few hours, a few days and even a few months. Normally writer's block hits for me when my writing seems to feel stale or I'm feeling repetitive. So I'll need to let myself experience some new things or let my mind be free enough to explore new ways of expressing myself.
