Someone needs to make a gif animation of Joe's violent head-nodding from the HT days and add lice and dandruff flakes flying off with each nod. GO.
I'm listening to it right now and and its absolutely impossible for it to be fake! Crawling has a completely different vocal track on the chorus. There's NO WAY you can fake that! plus a lot of subtle stuff everywhere else. HT sounds so fresh like this. Makes me appreciate the album a whole lot more again. Hats off to LPL for this exclusive. Sure only audiophiles would notice the difference, but it still amazing to hear the album like this. *edit* Holy Sh*t @ the intro to By Myself..... Joes' a BEAST on this. Guitars seem louder too.
Agreed. This is definitely not fake. The bass levels are amazingly loud compared to the final product, as are the guitars. It's actually a very refreshing listen compared to years of Hybrid Theory. The drums sound much more to the forefront as well, sounding less electronic and distorted. I actually prefer this version of In The End to the final product, Mike's verses are less electronic sounding, with the effects being more in the background and less on top of the vocal track. Alot more scratching on some songs than the final product.
It seems like more or less everything there is in the final album. It's just different levels and mixing, then again it is just an unmastered version.
My take: LPLive staff didn't bid on it in the end...we heavily discussed it and even went back to analyze the dates of things like the Plaster demo CD, the 8 track promo, the 9 track promo, etc to see if anything matched up date-wise for this and we in the end concluded this was fake so we didn't bother with it. Usually we pounce on stuff like this but we figured someone was pulling an elaborate scheme with this one especially since multitracks for Hybrid Theory are slowly getting around. So when someone contacted us with it and wanted us to post it, staff came to me and wanted me to write a news post for it. My original draft I sent to everyone else had an entire paragraph stating how this could be a totally fake item (ie: a fan remixed the multitracks to make this), so I was pretty sure it wasn't real. They emailed me back like WTF and listed some distinct differences in the songs, like the scratch into to By Myself, the different take (?) of vocals on Crawling, the drums before the bridge on By Myself and the intro of Cure For The Itch. Those 4 things are what did it for me because I can't see a fan really making those himself/herself and putting those into the songs. Scratching yes but really what solidified it was the intro of Cure For The Itch lol. That sample hasn't ever come out in any form like that so after listening a few times to the entire thing I'll go with the notion that it's real. Our staff had some contact with Ryu (WTF lol) about it.....I'm not sure what he said but he's credited in the release in our post...once I get info on that I'll let you know but apparently he could confirm it? Not really sure what exactly went on there. I thought this was fake too and now after listening to the FLAC versions a few times I am 99.9% sure this is real. How random for something like this to pop up and it's not like, EPIC in any form but it gives us a totally unmastered form to all of the songs and in some senses gives us demos for a few songs (Crawling, By Myself, Cure For The Itch, Points Of Authority). The only thing I'm like WTF on is how jumbled up the tracklisting is and the track titles for tracks 9 and 10 Cool little find though, glad it got out! Awaiting a big Astat post like KATHY too lol...ready for him to dissect it! Would be cool if yall mentioned it on the front page (if you want to host it too that'd be rad) or something...I mean any way possible to catch Mike's attention about this would be cool. He might not be able to comment on it (see: She Couldn't) but it's worth a shot. /2cents
Pretty sure you could just layer live Crawling vocals over that version. Also, you can very easily boost low end so the bass will become richer. I don't feel like listening through it all again to actually tell if it's fake or not. It's not like these are actual demos anyways. They are 99% completed versions of the mastered versions. I don't get why this is so hyped.
Pretty sure those aren't vocals from a live version of Crawling but that's just my thoughts. You're right about the bass. A few of these classify as actual demos since there are differences, like the intro of Points or intro of Cure. Small differences but enough to make them demos. Wish there was more stuff that was different like maybe the rap part on Crawling or something. Most of them are just differences in the mix though.
I wouldn't call them demos. I think LP fans abuse that word. There is a such thing as having a different mix or a different version. If I make two versions of a song with slight differences and they are both mixed and I sent them off to be mastered, those songs are not demos. If these are really unmastered, they are not demos. They are mixed, done, ready to be mastered (which is just icing) and put to CD. I think we as LP fans have a Demo fetish lol. The song could have totally different lyrics but if they were ready to be mastered, you cannot call that a demo. Demos are for reference. They get a structure down then you hit the studio and really lay the song down. Linkin Park just happens to have demos that dont' change much when they re-record them in-studio.
just saying because people seem to freak out over the increased bass volumes and pther stuff like those were never there in the first place.
http://www.lplive.net scroll down and it's on the homepage! we have it in 320kbps mp3s and also in FLAC (lossless). Great point Justin!
For starters, I think it's real. And, for me anyways, it's really cool because Hybrid Theory is the first album that I really listened to. It isn't the bands best album, but it will always hold a place in my heart (I know I'm being cheesy, lol). Therefore, any kind of demos coming from this CD bring special attention to me. If this same product was for a different album, I would most likely not care.
