A big congratulations to Linkin Park for being nominated for a Grammy! LP were nominated under the category of Best Rock Instrumental Performance for 'Session' off of their newest studio album "Meteora". They're nominated against The Allmans Brothers Band, Jeff Beck, Robert Randolph & The Family Band and Steve Vai. The awards take place on February 8th, 2004 and will be broadcast live on CBS at 8PM EST. Good luck, Linkin Park!

That alone makes me not want them to win. Robert Randolph is a genius.

I forget, is this award one of the awards that are actually announced on the show or one of the ones they don't show? I thought I might ask since this would be the main thing that decides whether if I am going to watch the show or not.

I looked at the nominations myself earlier today and I'm still baffled as to how Train got nominated since their album did nothing this year and didn't exactly receive critical acclaim. In fact, the only reason that I even remember they had one out was when I saw the nomination. They could have at least nominated St. Anger if not Meteora...

Oh well, I guess this is just another example of different interpretations between what is or is not a rock album...that's about the only explanation as to how Train actually made it on there.

On top of that, I'm surprised (or maybe not) that the industry couldn't at least acknowledge how well Meteora, or any of its singles, did this year with more nominations when it is so obsessed with assuming a sophomore album will flop.

Congrats to LP thought, I hope they win.

This seems like a technical award that doesnt exactly involve any big celebrities :)rolleyes:), so they might end up announcing it before they go to break ("Earlier this evening, these awards were presented...blah blah...).
Believe it or not, the Grammys are most often based on quality of music or performance, not radio play or record sales (That's the AMAs and Billboard awards).

In theory perhaps. Just looking at some of the nominations it's a clear as day that the 'who's hot now' mentality has had more than a hand in determining who's been nominated.

well yea, thats always a key factor. if the Grammys didnt toss in a 50 Cent or Christina Aguilera in there somwhere, it'd be like the Oscars without (enter random drama movie here).
EDIT :: From what i know, there are over 100 awards given out, so with performances, nominee announcing, presenter announcing, station breaks and even those few ballsy presenters who share thier opinion on someone elses time they really wont have time to get to the little ones. That is if this award is a little one.
Here's the list for the full nominees.

Well congratulations to Linkin Park. Just being nominated is excellent indeed. Winning would really top the icing on the cake, but if they don't win we all know Linkin Park is the best. Winning doesn't really prove anything, except that you get 1 minute to thank everyone on television as well as an object stating your name and song and what category you won.

My mistake: St. Anger was nominated for Best Metal Performance. I didn't get a chance to see the full nomination list before, just the main ones.
