Recently after watching Mike perform on an Akai MPC2000 on the A Thousand Suns documentary, I've been considering improving my music career/adding to my repertoire of current instruments. Unfortunately Mike's model is 1,500+ and I can't afford to lay that out without being a serious musician. So I'm looking for advice. Right now I'm looking for something that allows me to input my own custom samples, but also utilize it as a drum machine as well. Due to my blatant inexperience with MPCs, I regrettably cannot tell which device does what, and I'm looking to be pointed in the right direction. I'm aiming to be as affordable as possible. In terms of just pads, I've found these options: MPD18 http://www.amazon.com/Akai-Pro-MPD1...cal-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1298655858&sr=1-4 LPD8 Laptop Pad Controller http://www.amazon.com/Akai-Pro-LPD8...al-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1298658356&sr=1-10 However there are also keyboard combos (neat!) below: Akai Pro MPK Mini: http://www.amazon.com/Akai-Pro-MPK-...al-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1298658356&sr=1-12 Akai MPK49: http://www.amazon.com/Akai-MPK-49-C...cal-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1298658458&sr=1-1 Of course though, I've just been looking into Akai. If there's great options with Korg etc, I'd love to know that too. Thanks for any help you guys can provide!
The Korg Nano series are really good. I've been using them for a while now and I haven't had any issues. Easy to set up and work with.
I only do mashups right now, but are looking to expand into solo work. If you'd like to hear my mashups, my YouTube account is zshadowofadoubt.
Hmmm.... A music career eh!? Derek if you could, can you be my Joe Hahn? I have a Rob Bourdon in South Jersey that wants to start a band. --RS
