Hey LPA, I'm new here, but thought I'd share this with you to get your feedback, seeing as the "target audience" of this project is the Linkin Park Fanbase. I would love any criticism, edits, etc. you guys have. I write lyrics (that's the extent of my "musical" capabilities) and recently, I've been listening to the American Idiot, 21 Century Breakdown, and American Idiot Musical albums. I loved how these albums are able to tell a story, and I've decided to try writing my own in the similar style. I'm going to be writing just the lyrics first, and will be posting progress in this thread as I make it - i.e. storyline, lyrics, character backgrounds, etc. I'd love to be able to get feedback from you guys, as the LPLive base would be the kind of "market" I'd be aiming for with this project. When it comes time for working on music, I'm not exactly sure what I will do at the moment, but I'd definitely be willing to collaborate with people from here. To get it started, here's what I have so far: It's a story of two people, roughly 18-20. Mollee is a dancer from a small town, Nowhere. She dropped out of high school to go to New York to try to make it there. She doesn't, so she is forced to return to Nowhere. She's lived there for all her life, and, after getting a taste of what's out there, she desperately wants to find a way out. Erik Hometown: City of Thieves He is considered an outcast, even in his own family. After being burned, he decides to leave the City of Thieves. He heads to Nowhere, hearing it is safe from the hardships from the City. I don't like his name or hometown, and would love suggestions. Basic Storyline at the moment Late Fall 01 They both start out in the two cities, heading to Nowhere. Winter 01 Erik deals with leaving everything he's known behind and the fact he's still an outcast, just in a different place. Mollee deals with the fact she had her dreams ripped away from her and she fears she'll never leave this town. Late Winter 01 The two start noticing each other. Mollee sees Erik, knowing he's new, but thinks she's imagining that he's a new person, and that her mind is just taunting her with the idea of experiencing new things outside of Nowhere. Erik sees Mollee, and can't understand how someone like her would be in a place like Nowhere. Spring 01 Mollee and Erik finally "meet" and start talking to each other. Summer 01 They start falling in love and all that bullshit. Erik starts to feel this may be where he belongs - Nowhere with Mollee. Mollee starts thinking about how, with Erik's help, the two of them could get out of there. Late Summer 01 Erik starts to regress into old habits. He starts to resent the Mollee's affection and her pushes to leave Nowhere. Early Fall 02 Erik is fed up with Mollee constantly pushing to leave what he sees as his safehaven. Out of anger, and frustration, he decides to join the army, seeing it as a way to "mock" Mollee's inability to leave Nowhere, but also sees it as a way to still make her proud. He's gone for a year. Winter 02 - Summer 02 Mollee is angry and heartbroken, not only that Erik's gone, but that he took with him all her hopes of leaving Nowhere. She resolves to work her way out on her own. Early Fall 03 Erik returns, expecting Mollee to be waiting for him with open arms upon his arrival, but doesn't find her at the airport. Instead, he finds her at her home, getting ready to leave and head to Somewhere without him. He tries to convince her to stay, but fails, and eventually he falls into a state of apathy, and realizes he's in the same position he was before. Taking only his rifle, he leaves Nowhere for Oblivion. Meanwhile, she has begun her journey to Somewhere, and looks ahead to whatever may be headed her way. Proposed Tracklist The tags after each track are corresponding to the storyline above. M = from Mollee's perspective, K = from Erik's. Tracklist 1) Broken Lights of Broadway (MLF01) 2) Road to Nowhere (KLF01) 3) Keepsake (KW01) 4) Anchor (MW01) 5) Out of Place (LW01) 6) Godsend (SP01) 7) Love and All That Bullshit (SU01) 8) Nowhere is Where You Belong (SU01) 9) Monster (KLSU01) 10) Soldier of Safehaven (KEF02) 11) Phoenix (MW02-SU02) 12) Anywhere But Here (Nowhere, Oblivion, Somewhere) (EF03) I have also been talking to Hawk at LPLive (idk if he's over here), and he decided to work with me by creating the music. As for the vocals, currently, they are slated to be done my friend Devin. I'm hoping to have some more progress than this to show you guys next time, and hopefully have a preview of some sort in the next few weeks or month. A big thank you to Hawk for choosing to help me on this, go check out his EP! I'm currently about 45% done with the first song I started, so hopefully I will be able to post the full lyrics here soon (don't want to put partial)
4 of the songs already have music made, which I will be writing to. The others, I plan on writing the lyrics to get the story down and get more of a feel for what I want the music to sound like. From there, I'll tell Hawk what I was thinking about for the music, he'll make the song formatted to the lyrics (i.e. v1, c1, v2, c2, b, c3 or whatever combination) and I'll rework the lyrics so they and the vocals fit to the music.
awesome. i always wrote lyrics. for years i wrote lyrics to already done songs which i found helped in making my own music. so i wanna see where you go. oh and i am sans correct capitalization because i am using my phone to write this lol.
*News* Due largely to calc kicking my ass, this project's being delayed until May. At that point, it will be worked on in full force, I will be writing lyrics to 5 instrumentals we already have, working with Hawk to make the other instrumentals, then writing the lyrics to those as well. After/during this time, we will be sending completed lyrics/instrumentals to BrandonR24 from LPLive, and he will be putting the vocals to them. Other news - one of my close friends from up north contacted me after months of no talking really (friends grew apart). Previously written lyrics I have, he is going to be working with friends to produce another, separate album during the same time as FILATBS. This is not the first of multiple delays, I have just noticed my grades slipping a little, plus a larger workload than I previously thought, and I need to keep a certain GPA to keep scholarship money. I know that I write better under certain circumstances and those are fulfilled, so when May rolls by, I will have no problem writing these songs, and they should be higher quality than if the circumstances were not met (people and experiences to inspire the different elements of the story).
