what was your honest, very first thoughts on the catalyst when you heard it? mine was a little bit iffy, i didnt like it so much because i had this preset mind of linkin park being a rock group, but my opinion has greatly changed from then
I was tearing up. I couldn't believe LP finally made the transition to make meaningful, skillful music. And that reaction carried over to the full album when it was released, times 10. I could barely hold myself together. The structure and instrumental of The Catalyst just blew me away. Electronic rock? Yes please.
My impressions were along these lines: " Wow, this isn't new, but it's hella different for the band. This sounds like trance or rave. I don't know if I like it at all, but I know I don't hate it. It will probably grow on me. "
I liked it at first, not a HUGE fan of it, but liked it. It was nothing like the old LP, which is what I was expecting. I listened to it a few more times that week (since it took a while for me to download it) and now this and WFTE gives me absolute chills!! Couldnt imagine this cd being anything else!
first listen to the few seconds snippet: Hell ya! second listen on the 15 second snippet: Well this was a bit out of expectations third listen on the 30 sec snippet: No...NO...NO!!! Goddamn techno stuff?! I'm breaking down........ first listen to full song: Okay, so it wasn't that bad afterall, phew... after a dozen listens: Hell what was I thinking? This is EPIC!
I was a bit iffy on Mike's vocals at first, but I do remember thinking that Chester sounded epic. The instrumentation was definitely a surprise, not necessarily a bad surprise, just that I didn't see it coming at ALL. All in all, first impressions were mixed but I've grown to really like the song.
First few snippets: Awwwwwwww snap! Medal of Honor snippets: This is...um...0.o 30-sec snippet: Eh, I hope the whole song is better, but not bad. First ever listen: 0.0 Oh. My. God. After MANY listens: OH. MY. GOD. YES. I knew LP was expecting a grower with "The Catalyst"...well, hopefully expecting.
i got a tiny cranky feeling about it first. they just directed the song to electronica. after listening a couple of times more ....... i think i really like it.
I heard the song in full the first time I gave it a listen and it was after reading hundreds of comments on LPA ... I liked it. It took a couple of listens before I was actually really impressed but I liked it on the first listen. I heard the edit from the "Medal Of Honor" thing afterwards and I thought, I wouldn't have been happy if that was what I'd heard first ...
I hated it at first, listening to all the snippets, then the medal of honor trailer version, I thought man this is crap. Then the full version got released I still didn't like it. I got the hear the full album at Warner Bros. 2 weeks before it came out, and was indifferent towards the whole album and thought The Catalyst was one of the best songs. Now I really like the song and love the album.
Didn't like it that much, still don't, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt and I liked the album.
first 30 sec-hmm joe is scratchin his head and comin up wid new stuff..cool.. first verse- first listen i didn't hate mike's vocals but neither loved dem.. den lyrics hit me hard..*when i close my...bleed into sky*..dat was too good.. middle techno snippet- is dis LP...wtf.. (til nw-song is ohk good for me).. den comes d 'lift me up let me go' part...fainted out of sheer awesomeness...rob's drums were magnificient during the end part...dat made catalyst love at first sight for me
I heard the full song first when I woke up early to stream it online from BBC1 or whatever, and had my speakers with bass all the way up. My first reaction was "that was fucking awesome and 6 minutes is a lot shorter when you're being mind fucked".
I kinda built it up in my head that it was going to be alittle like the older stuff. Since i waited alittle to listen to it after it came out.. i thought i wasnt ready for it or somn, i know im weird. The beginning blew me away, after awhile the whole song gave me chills. The whole album really hit me hard and gave it a very deep meaning when i shared a road trip with someone. We went to NHRA to see drag racing at its finest. We listened to the album the whole time, just driving and feeling the moment... we were boosting down an open highway in a 240 which made the experience that much better
