Random, ridiculous question, I know, but my 14 year old brother was in hospital for two weeks over Christmas due to severe respiratory problems. He's received a diagnosis of asthma (amongst other things) and he has got it into his head that it makes him wimpy and pathetic. He's kind of obsessed with LP. I guess I got him into it when he was really little. He's been learning guitar and he's pretty good at it, actually. He reckons he'll never make it in a band if he can't run up and down the stage. I keep telling him that it's all over the internet that Mike has asthma so it's not all 'tools and wimps' (as he puts it) that suffer from such a thing but he doesn't believe me. When did he say he did? It might make him feel better and it'll definitely prove me right.
I'm pretty sure he does have asthma, but I can't find anything that comes straight from Mike saying he has it.
It's on all those 'facts' lists but I couldn't find anything either. Thought I'd ask. My little bro really likes the guy so it might make his negative complex thing a little...less, if you know what i mean, if someone he really looks up to has the same thing.
I can't say for Mike, but I used to have Asthma and grew out of it. Just tell him to keep his chin up, he's still growing and things can always change for the better. Focus on playing guitar, learning songs, creating music. People always find a way to conquer the odds in ways never thought possible. Tell him to get negative words out of his head, I've got a friend that's a paraplegic that's confined to a wheel chair most of the time, he doesn't like it but he loves photography and has really made a name for himself. --RS
Thanks Schen. I will tell him that. Obviously, he'll tell me to shut the f**k up but he'll realise later on that people are only trying to help him. Ithink it's just pretty raw for him right now. He's a little spoiled and a little demanding and he's always kind of got what he wanted. It makes things difficult for him when things go wrong.
I concur with Luke, it's either on the making of Petrified or during an MTV interview on the set of The Catalyst where Mike reveals he has asthma. I definitely remember this. So tell him if the emcee of one of the most kickass rock groups can run around on stage and be alright, so can he!
It's during the making of the Petrified video with the road flares. They had to get fans in to blow the smoke away from Mike's face.
^^Thread win. If the above picture doesn't convince him that people with asthma aren't wimps, I don't know what will.
If i were in the questioning phase of my sexuality, that picture of that man would have singlehandedly turned me off men.
I didn´t know that Mike has asthma. But honestly you don´t have to run up and down the stage and headbang all the time to become a great rockstar...Mike´s the best example for that. It´s better to be a good guitar player and make awesome music than to suck on guitar while you run on the stage like a lunatic and I´m sure that I´m not the only one who says that!
I'm strongly allergic, as Mike is (several interviews, ustream chat) anyway sometimes when it gets worse I get asthma. sorry for that 100% unfunny post.
