1. Inception - 9.99/10 Does the top stop spinning at the end or not?! 2. Black Swan - 9.9/10 Amazing concept, but all this stress to be a ballerina? Really? 3. Tomorrow, When The War Began - 9.9/10 This is the second movie I come across before ever hearing about it (the first being Monsters) so I decided to take a look. I started it around 3:45 AM, not being able to sleep, and even though I felt like I could pass out if I relaxed for a second, I didn’t take my eyes off my computer screen. The premise seems unlikely, yet at the same time, it’s highly convincing. On top of all that, I got a good, happy feeling at the end. Badass. 4. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World - 9.8/10 The humor outweighed the romance by the teensiest of ounces - should have been the other way around. 5. Monsters - 9.7/10 A lack of happily ever after upset me greatly, but that’s all that upset me. 6. The Crazies - 9.6/10 Not as scary as I had hoped for, but definitely disturbing, hence the score is above a 9. 7. Paranormal Activity 2 - 9.5/10 Unbelievably scary, even in a theater packed and overflowing with people. Glad I actually got to see the evil force in action, but the lack of closure at the end stops it from beating movies 1-6. 8. Kick-Ass - 9/10 Just a little faster and Nicholas Cage would be okay, not that I’m sad he didn’t make it. 9. The Experiment - 8.5/10 An intense, but real, depiction of men with only their primal instincts left. Still nasty. 10. The Social Network - 8/10 Just as good as the critics claimed it was plus all the slow boring parts they didn’t mention.
I actually can't even remember what I watched this year so this is my top 5 and I'll add more when I remember. 1) Four Lions Best film of the year for me. It's so fucking hilarious, it's about a controversial topic (terrorism) but it actually isn't a controversial film at all. It's pure comedy. I think generally some people may not understand this film as there are a lot of hidden jokes referring to different cultures/religions/accents. 10/10 2) Inception Leo DiCaprio <3 Joseph Gordon-Levitt <3 Oh yeah, the film is great too. Visually stunning and gripping story. 10/10 3) Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows - Part One The best adaptation of a HP book so far, much better acting by the cast too. Can't wait for part 2! 9/10 4) Toy Story 3 Very emotional for a kid's film Great ending too. 8.5/10 5) The Karate Kid Aww little Jaden Smith is adorable! The ending of the film was very predictable imo but I still enjoyed watching it. 8/10
I don't even think I can come up with 10 in some order, but i do have some award categories of my own. Most Overrated Movie: Inception. Hello plot holes, plus the middle was on the slow side. By all means it's a good move, but it isn't the 5 out of 5 star super-movie that people make it out to be. I'd give it 4 stars, tops. Surprise Quality Award: How to Train Your Dragon. This year, Dreamworks beat the tar out of Pixar. I enjoyed Megamind a bunch too. Fattest Disappointment: The Last Airbender. Please, for the love of all that is spaghetti, get the first season of Avatar rather than watching this tripe. Thanks M Night for doing a great disservice to one of my most favorite cartoon series ever. KATHYxx out-of-genre award: Scott Pilgrim. Usually i hate romances. Scott Pilgrim is the exception.
In no particular order: The Book of Eli Shutter Island Green Zone How to Train Your Dragon Despicable Me Never Let Me Go
I don't even know why I watched How to Train Your Dragon, was honestly like any other Dreamworks movie, if any other Dreamworks movie had critics that thought it was good. Will take Inception, Toy Story 3, Scott Pilgrim and Kick-Ass though - Kick Ass movie being better than comic/Scott Pilgrim being not better. Didn't watch that much this year I suppose.
off the top The Social Network Black Swan Exit Through the Gift Shop Inception The Town Scott Pilgrim vs. The World The Expendables Shutter Island I still haven't seen some of the stuff I was looking forward to like 127 Hours and HP 7 part 1.
Toy Story 3 Kick-Ass Four Lions Scott Pilgrim vs. The World I've not really watched anything else that came out this year. And I also think I may be in a vast minority that thought that Inception was an incredibly mediocre film with too much hype.
Shutter Island (even better after watching a second time) Inception HP 7 Toy Story 3 (saw it with my little cousins. It was actually pretty good) ....and that's it. This had to be the worst year for movies in the history of the business. I'm sure there's some movies I didn't see that were really good (most likely movies that weren't shown in all theaters). I wanted to see 127 hours but it wasn't at my theatre but I heard it was pretty good. fyi: The Social Network was the most overrated movie of the year
Yay, another Four Lions fan I also liked Shutter Island. How To Train Your Dragon was pretty good. I didn't really like Despicable Me, those little alien creatures were trying too hard to be cute and it actually started to annoy me. I still have to watch: Kick-Ass, The Social Network and Scott Pilgrim
oh ewwww.....don't even joke about that movie. And I can't believe so many people like scott pilgrim....i had to watch the last 15 minutes of the movie once because i was waiting for the tv and man, that was one ridiculous looking movie.
People like it because it's Edgar Wright being true to form, and they've watched more than 15 minutes.
Drama: 1. The Social Network 2. Inception 3. True Grit 4. The Town 5. Buried Comedy: 1. Toy Story 3 2. Due Date 3. Easy A 4. Get Him To The Greek 5. The Other Guys
I want to watch 127 Hours freaking badly! I'm so stoked for that arm amputation scene everyone's talking about... All badass movies
i only have a top 3 D: 1 The last airbender the movie avatar is one of my fav tv series/cartoon, just love it and had to see the movie many say its crap but i think its a master piece and a beautiful movie! too bad indeed that only a small part of whole story line was shown, hopefully there will come a next part! 2 Harry Potter and the deathly hallows part one i really like HP, had to see the 7th of course and also gonna go to part 2 of 7 it was cool! 3 The owls of ga'hoole it wasnt my plan to go to that movie but after i watched it , i thought it was actually pretty good and it was 3D , was nice! also very nice music in the movie
Pretty sure Scott Pilgrim is my own personal favourite. There are still quite a few I'd like to watch but haven't. When I have watched films this year, for the most part it's been either films from last year that I didn't see then or films from this year that were pretty good but not great. Oh yeah, and Macgruber. Macgruber is just shite.
http://filmcrithulk.wordpress.com/2011/01/03/hulks-top-13-films-of-2010/ I find this list rather compellingly written. Seriously.
