We all put the thought of there being better Meteora demos and b-sides out there. We get two of them, Unfortunate and Halo. Are these small samples of what could've came to be on Meteora before it was turned more commercial? I mean the clinking effects in Halo are pretty original, even though the guitars pretty much do what they always do, layer for atmosphere.
I like Halo, but personally I think Meteora is their best album INSTRUMENTALLY. You can't beat the instrumental of Somewhere I Belong. It's the lyrics that bring it down a little.
I hope these demos never had a chance because then I'd just be thinking of what could've been....they could've made a good album.
Somewhere I Belong is amazing instrumentally yes, but songs like Jornada Del Muerto, and The Catalyst are up there too.
Yeah, I may second guess my original post. ATS may be better instrumentally (and obviously as a whole). But still, Meteora is up there instrumentally.
It's not just the riffs. It's the synths and how they go hand and hand with the guitar. And in addition the riffs are the catchiest riffs I've ever heard.
Yeah the reversed acoustic guitar and the textural guitars aren't catchy just because they are too traditional. Yeah travz you must be right. This was the standard for LP back in 2000-2004.
I can fart into a mic, add autotune and gsnap to it, and it will be catchy. That doesn't mean you can't beat it instrumentally.
But, it wouldn't be catchy. That's like if I said if I screeched and added flange to it. It's just spraying lysol on shit.
The use of "best" when describing the instrumentation of SIB is a bit misleading. If you mean "best" as in a personal favourite, then by all means that's well and good. If you mean "best" in terms of exemplified talent, I wonder if you've ever heard power chords before. Yes, incredibly catchy. But catchy does not mean good musicianship.
The only real interesting instrumentation of SIB would be the reversed acoustic, other than that, it's just another song with power chords and guitar distortion.
Maybe it's not interesting and maybe it's not challenging, but you can't deny that they crafted a great song instrumentally. I won't argue for it being the best, but they really had an ear for what the song needed in that one.
if i could erase just one song from meteora it would be "SIB". seriously, this main riff is one of the worst in lp's history (aside from the intro/bridge riff of "lying from you"). i'm so glad that "halo" had to leave the process because it's plain boring. still, i wouldn't say the whole album is bad. except for sib, lfy and "faint" i like everything. it's a shame that they dropped "easier to run" so fast from their setlist.
I don't know why the majority hate on Meteora so much. It was the first Linkin Park album I bought (but second I listened to after Hybrid Theory) and I absolutely fell in love with it. It's a sexy piece of work. Ironically, Somewhere I Belong, Lying From You, and Faint are my three favorites off the album, haha.
I believe you mean samples. While there is extensive piano and strings on the album, there aren't that many synth sounds on the album. They're mainly samples.
Often derivative of Hybrid Theory and previous, not to mention itself. Over the top slick production. An abundance of filler songs. Wangsty lyrics turned up to 11. /tvtropes What actually made the album vs what we've heard since that didn't. Those are usually the main criticisms. Not saying I agree... well, maybe I do. It's a weird entry in their discography now, because it has its moments but they'd arguably done most of the same things better already, and they didn't really move forward a great deal either.
I personally like it, but in terms of musical advancement, it wasn't quite there for Linkin Park, not including songs like Breaking the Habit and Session.
I think every album since Ht has musically improved slightly. Meteora tops HT for its use of interesting samples and some guitar work (Tho i still think alot of the guitar work on HT is better) Listen to the verses of both Easier to Run & From the inside. Really intricate stuff the way the clean guitars harmonize with each other and the strings/piano. If LP focued more on that than reliying more on big heavy choruses thoughout the whole album (not to mention the watered-down lyrics!), Meteora would probably be LP's best work.
