Honestly, I'm kinda with you guys on this one. "Don't Tell" was effectively discrimination, by not allowing gay, bi, men or lesbian, bi women to even remotely ever share that about themselves with someone. On the other hand, it is assumed people are straight, and that a guy mentioning what girls he thinks are hot would not get him in any trouble (though he just revealed his heterosexuality, or bi, but that's doubtful in this situation)

These people are enlisting and essentially donating their lives for God's sake, yet we've told them that if they dare reveal that they are bi, gay, etc they would be discharged from service (a shame though, its really a shame on the military) as well as potentially having to pay $200,000 for being discharged on such grounds.

Effectively discrimination? It is discrimination. Flat out discrimination, no ifs ands or buts.

If someone is willing to die for this country, what fucking business of mine is it what they do in their private life? All of these right wingers trying to ban LGBT service members should be lucky someone is volunteering to put their ass on the line to protect them and this country while they sit back in the safe confines of their home preaching this hateful crap.

A majority of Americans don't care if there are gay soldiers. A majority of soldiers don't care if their fellow soldiers are gay. A majority of top military commanders don't care if there are gay soldiers. And the US military has already been working with gay soldiers, whether it's closeted soldiers in the US military, or when fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq with soldiers from other countries such as the UK and Canada (or just about any other modern country. And Israel, who arguably has the best military in the world) that allow openly gay soldiers. And the world hasn't ended. Let them serve already. While we're fighting 2 wars we should be lucky that anyone is willing to serve regardless of their sexual orientation.

I was attempting to state it was mildly as possible to help those who aren't on the same side understand (i'm bi btw, the issue has been near to my heart for a long time) I was just attempting to reach into the corners of the irrationality of those on the far light.

Heh I like how you go from kinda agreeing to agreeing 110%.

I celebrated this decision when the news broke out um... last week was it? Fuck intolerance.

I don't wanna get on a soapbox because if given motivation I would. So I'll just cheer with the rest of you and head out.

About damn time. How's being gay or lesbian gonna affect how you hold a gun or take or orders from a general? This is the most :squint: wake up call in modern history, and history of the military in general.
