Ok I've spent my whole life on 56k/v92 (rock on!) but I have to get a wireless network card for college. Can anyone recommend one for a notebook, not to pricey though? Oh yeah, and I'd also like to learn a little more about them. Such as the difference between 802.11b and 802.11g. Anyhelp is of course greatly appreciated. Watch, I'll bet the first day I sign on LPA will be blocked.
When is LJ not my hero? Thanks Tomi too, I was thinking of going with Linksys as I haven't heard of a lot of the other brands. So just so I got it right, any of the cards will operate, the differences are just in speeds? I think I like the "g" one the best.
I use Dlink. It isn't bad, but can get a bit over run using Bittorrent. I have heard Lynksis and Bittorrent don't mix well either.
Well, if you are getting a newer notebook, they have wireless built in. But if your notebook doesn't have this, i'd go with the two choices they have listed, DLink or Linksys. Either one will work just fine.
I wish, but I'll be stuck with this one for a least a few more years (not that I'm complaining, it's pretty decent). I think I'll go with the Linksys G. I really don't want to take a risk when it comes to my computer and I know of this brand and have heard some good things. Thanks for all the help. Oh yeah, Bit Torrent is evil.
Ah, wireless cards. I troubleshoot the suckers now for Comcast...new job... There's a lot that can go wrong, and we have a term for all those problems..."you messed the settings up" I'm sick of clearing 169 IPs. It's like a factory...every box that comes my way is the same :chemist:
What are you on? All you gotta do is port forward and you're set.
No, I mean the router kind of crashes after taking too many connections. It doesn't crash but it continually loses the connection to the internet.
Hopefully I won't have too many problems, but unfortunetly my room doesn't come with access to a wired ethernet network, so I'm kinda stuck with the wireless.
No, I mean the router kind of crashes after taking too many connections. It doesn't crash but it continually loses the connection to the internet.
Funny, I have around 10 torrents running at a time sometimes, and I only get a slight slow down. But then again, I haven't forwarded those ports yet...
