This makes me even more interested in the album.

Gore takes its time to get into but I'm starting to love it.

And it's definitely not the dream pop album some people had expected, it's actually heavier than their latest albums.

The heavier sections are definitely heavier, that's for sure.

This album is like 90's grunge mixed with 80's ethereal wave. With a Deftones flavor. And a modern HQ sound (based on the official released tracks).

    And it's fucking awesome.

    EDIT : http://www.upsetmagazine.com/features/deftones-still-argue-lot/

You can tell this band has some creative different sometimes

Thinking about this album all week has been making it feel so long.

So, after two listens, I still only like a couple of songs, but I like those songs quite a lot. :)

I'm not totally done digesting the album yet, but I'll say "Acid Hologram", "Gore", "Phantom Bride" and "Rubicon" are some of the best songs they've ever written. Amazing ending to an album, those latter three.

I'm overwhelmed by every song right now (maybe except for Doomed User). Gore might well be in their top 3 albums.

"Phantom Bride" is class -- the guitar solo! :phone:

From (L)Mirl up until Rubicon, it's all classy material in my book.

"Pittura" might be the biggest hidden gem in there though. The breakdown is insane.

I guess I really have no problems with any track on the album apart from "Hearts / Wires", which I can't really get into. I'd have preferred if it was a 90 second instrumental passage connecting "(L)mirl" and "Gore" somehow.

Btw, "Gore" is #1 in the UK chart update. Which comes off as quite a surprise (Koi No Yokan charted at #30)

The album is also getting some praise by critics. As far as right now, it's up there at 83 on Metacritic, with only KNY being a bit higher. But some more positive reviews haven't been added (yet?).

I like this album more than their last two. I'm kind of on the fence about a handful of songs but I find it more enjoyable as a whole more than Diamond Eyes or Koi No Yokan. I like when Deftones explore their stranger and more progressive side. I do think "Phantom Bride" and "Prayers/Triangles" are some of the best songs they've ever made. This album also has Chino's best vocals to date, by far. My only real gripe is that Abe often sounds like he's drowned out by everyone else in the band. Which is a shame, because his incredibly strong and stylish playing is one of the best features of the band's sound.
