Out of curiousity, how many vegetarians do we have here on the LPA? I'm not but I know a fair few people who are but I'm wondering what made you become a veggie (if you are)? Finally, if you are a veggie, do you eat fish? 'Cause I've never understood the whole thing with veggies still eating fish. FISH HAVE FEELINGS TOO!
I was one for the best part of last year. Did it as a matter of principle and on a personal basis, and before anyone starts the sanctimonious vegetarian bollocks I didn't really care about what other people were doing in regards to it. I actually thought it was subjective, even then. Still do. Then I realised I didn't really feel that strongly about it and that I might as well not bother. Still, it's something I might go back to later in life. I can respect people whether they are or they aren't as long as they aren't really ridiculously hardline about it.
I'm not a vegetarian at all, I love meat. But I respect the people who are vegetarians and do not eat meat, it's their choice. There isn't any thing wrong with that, but most people I've seen online who are vegetarin are from the U.K.
I eat vegetarian burgers before I skate, because they sit better on my stomach than normal burgers do. Other than that, I'm not a vegetarian, though I have considered it. I guess I just love meat too much. However, I have no problem with vegetarians, as long as they don't get all weird about me eating meat.
I've ate a litte things that were tofu, and they didn't taste that bad.. just the real thing is better.
Hah, these look, taste and feel just like meat. They're just tofu instead. XD They're called Boca burgers, if you wanna try them sometime.
I'm in no way a vegetarian, I love my meat. But, I don't have any problem with people who are vegetarians, one of my close friends is one, for instance. I just don't like it when people start forcing their opinions onto me, e.g. "you eat meat, you're evil".
I'd have to say if someone gave me a choice of never eat meat again or die then death would be an easy option for me.
I'm not a vegetarian but I'm not against those who are, for health reasons. I hate the vegetarians who feel they're on a crusade to save animals when they're not. Farmland animals are killed for their meat, and they're killed as humanely as possible so they feel as little pain as possible when they're killed. However, when grains and such are harvested, hundreds of thousands of small, innocent animals such as rabbits and the like are killed in the combines of the harvesting machines. They're not saving any animals any more than if they'd just eat meat without some crazy crusade to "save the cows."
Well, I'm pretty sure less die in harvesters and things like that. But yeah, you have to be pretty sanctimonious if you think no animals die at all then, and some vegetarians actually do. A lot of the ones I've came across are pretty rational about it and acknowledge that stuff but likewise some are completely insane.
I've got a friend who claimed she threatened to break up with her boyfriend if he didn't at least try to be a vegetarian for a month. She's absolutely insane, like you said some can be. She once asked me what I was eating for dinner one night and when I told her my dad was grilling hamburgers, she decided to give me a huge speech about how cows are killed. I don't care, they're tasty.
I will always stand by my 'give me meat or give me death' attitude but I do tend to believe that some of the animals are kept in atrocious conditions which needs to be changed.
My sister eats meat, but she's all "PETA's right, we shouldn't eat meat, we shouldn't use animals in ANY form of entertainment... they're not ours to do that with. FUR COATS ARE INHUMANE!" My thought is, if the animal's going to be killed for food, use every part of it, or it's just wasting it. And yeah, from what I understand, some people actually eat mink and stuff like that.
Animals killed for food are killed quickly & in as little time as possible were as animals killed for their coats are clubed to death so as not to damage the coats..ive seen footage of these Alaskan poachers clubbing a baby seal then leaving it to drown in its own blood..once it was dead they came back skined it & left the carcas..soo being if being nice to animals is the reason for vegetarianism then I think people need to look at their facts again....
I can't stand PETA and people who argue for them. I once brought up this argument against someone who supports PETA: What about the lion that kills a guy on a safari? They'd usually answer that the lion was probably defending itself. So what if it wasn't? What if it just randomly attacked the guy? It's no different than if a human randomly attacked a lion. But since we've got "superior consciences," we should know we're "wrong" to attack the lion? What if we're defending ourselves? There are way too many loopholes in PETA's arguments and none of them make any sense anyway. Now, there are valid arguments, such that it's inhumane to club baby seals, but those are more common sense (which a lot of people lack) than anything.
