Somebody's in trouble............. What you're seeing here is more than a million dollars' worth of damage in less than five seconds...look closely at the tail... Tail Strike (Apologies for pop-ups if they may occur, I need to link to the photo as it's not mine, and it's copyrighted... Mods, linking to this site is OK, so please don't think I'm posting copyrighted material without permission...)
Oh ####... You know, usually, such tail strikes don't occur on takeoff :chemist: . At first look I'd have said he flared too much for the landing, but how the heck did he actually do that on takeoff? Airliners don't over-react on takeoff....
Nope, he indeed did it on take-off...and in a 777-200 too. 777s are known for quick climb-outs (in fact, they can take off in 4000 feet under light loads), and the fact that this guy still managed to plant the ass end of it all over the runway is hilarious Now, let's see...Cathay Pacific has done it, Singapore Airlines has done it (more than once, and with a 747 too), and now Malaysia Airlines has done it. Any guesses as to which East Asian airline's gonna be next up to the plate? :chemist:
Maybe JAL :chemist: . Anyway, Asian airliners also like to do engine strikes . 1 2 The best incidents are always the ones at R.I.P. Hong Kong - Kai Tak .

Aha, the all-too-common VHHH podstrikes. NCA did it at least twice with their 747-200F fleet when Kai Tak was still in operation, and Malaysian did it with a 744 there as well. Oh, and Virgin Atlantic planted the ass end of an A340-600 all over the place at Dulles last week...guess it's not just the Asian airlines who like to do it Although, it being an A340-600, I can see how it happened...for those of you who don't know what I mean, here's a pic of the long bird... A340-600 Long, isn't it? Here's more... Virgin Atlantic A340-600 Singapore Airlines 747-400 NCA Engine Pod Strike Look at the #1 engine in the last photo...it's a shot taken right after one of the photos that Avenger linked to...check out those flames Kai Tak was always bad for damage :chemist:

Must be a pain in the ass to taxi with . There's also some pics of planes that run out of runway at Kai Tak, funny stuff . 747 overboard!

It's even got little cameras buried behind the center main gear, one on each side of the horizontal stab, and one right at the top of the tail (the vertical stab)...so the crew can watch 'em on the displays while they're on the ground. There's a pic floating around somewhere from a time that the pilots were screwing around with 'em in flight...hehe... Heathrow's controllers don't like the A346 because the it's so long that the back end of it hangs over the taxiway....and Airbus is considering a further A330 stretch (yes, two engines) that's 15 feet (?) longer than the 346...now THIS I gotta see...

I said they should put two GE90-115s on 'er...115000 pounds of thrust a pop should do it Imagine the fun you'd have flying that B) Boeing's responded by announcing the redevelopment of the 747X project that was shelved after 9/11...looks like the same old Airbus Vs. Boeing war again. Always funny to see the slap fight that breaks out between those two
