A little known psychaedelic/prog band from Britain. Their vocalist/guitarist/keyboardist Steve Wilson started the band in 1987 and released really crazy, organic, psychaedelic tracks that were done by him and a friend.

In the mid-90s the band started to form, and the modern-day Porcupine Tree was formed. Instead of the vast landscapes of their previous albums, their material became more focused. Their most recent album, 'In Absentia', is their most acclaimed work to date. The album is also a lot heavier in places than they've ever experimented before, probably due to the fact Steve Wilson has produced the last three Opeth albums. Although their sound is unique, its similar to PINK FLOYD as well as the more melodic and complex moments of TOOL. These guys are pretty restrained and in their latest album their songs are moderate in size (ranging from 3-8 mins) compared to some of their other epics (ie. The Sky Moves Sideways is 34 mins!).
    Currently the band is:
    Steve Wilson - Vocals/Guitars
    Colin Edwin - Bass
    Gavin Harrison - Drums
    Richard Barbieri - Keyboards/Synths

Fav. Tracks: 'Trains', 'Lips of Ashes', 'Gravity Eyelids', '.3', 'Collapse the Light into Earth'

Last summer they had a US tour with Opeth...I got into both bands a month or so after :(

A year or two ago they were on a tour with Dream Theater as well....But they do tour frequently and I hear they are on par with Opeth as far as their live performances go B)

Right now they just got into the studio and are recording some new material (w00t)

    From their site:

"2004 will see the band commence work on an ambitious new Porcupine Tree album, their second for Lava/Atlantic. The album will also take the form of a film script (and therefore hopefully later a film). The band's first DVD project is also planned for later in the year, as well as further live releases through their Transmission label."

And their forums said they went into the studio last Monday.

    Sweet. :D
