I didn't know where else to put this so sorry if it's in the wrong forum. Why do some albums (e.g. Ill Nino's) have a 'parental advisory' sticker on it whereas others don't? For instance, the album 'Slipknot' has the word 'f**k' in every song but there's no sticker. If it's not compulsory for bands to slap this label on their album cover, why do they even bother? Is it a waste of money? :wth:
That annoys me too. I think that it depends on the record label/company. You may remember that P.Roach's last album had about 3-4 words on it and it got a sticker on it, while other albums, like Slipknot's, aren't. To me, its just dumb to put it on, but I think they have to because parents might sue or something if they their kid starts swearing a lot....
I don't get it. Its parents that made that phrase "sticks and stones". Yet, they still get offended by curse words. I just don't get it. I think the whole sticker thing is stupid. But whatever floats their boat. I guess they made the sticker for families like my cousins. They don't even allow the word "heck" to be said..
Personally, I don't think there's a need for parental advisory stickers. These days, kids are bound to hear swear words on TV. If a kid is free to buy an album with his own money then he obviously won't pay attention to the warning. If it's a parent who buys the actual CD, well...he/she might know a little bit about the band's tendency to swear before buying it for his/her children. So in conclusion, it's not necessary. Besides, the sticker's just there to look pretty and stir up controversy. Like how bands that release albums with the PA sticker are supposed to be bad-ass whereas the ones like LP who don't are perceived to be "clean".
Exactly. You can completley take music and movies away from kids, and they'll still learn all the cuss words and their meanings.
It's true...I was probably six when I learned the F word, and I didn't even listen to music then... And yeah, it depends on what label the album's on. Majors usually get stickers, indies don't. And then there are bands like AFI who cheated their way out of a PA sticker by not putting the F word in their written lyrics, even though they have three or four in a song on STS....
i love this. it's funny how i can see the future... all of you as parents... ironically trying desperately to keep your kids from 'filth' which... judging by history, will only get worse... songs probably won't even contain audible words soon... and you know, elvis was considered 'filthy' once...
No, I wouldn't do that to my kids. They're gonna learn bad words regardless of what you do, so don't waste your time trying to avoid the ineviteable and don't shield them from everything.
you never know... people change... times change... i feel that way also now... but people change... times change... i'm repeating myself... i'm repeating myself... stop repeating yourself... stop repeating yourself...

Very good point there. I understand why they put the stcker there because some parents really do not want their children listenin to music with use of bad language. But then again as you have all said they're gonna find out about all these words somehow so why stop them from listening to it. The parents are not gaining anything besides a teenager who is gonna complain about not being able to buy them music. As my parents say 'well if we don't let you listen to it then you will just go and listen to it at a friends house so we are not going to stop you'
My parents were like "You can't get albums with swear words in them" then my sister started to play Eminem through the house so they just said "Ah well, you've already heard bad words in your sisters music so just listen to it anyway". Basically my parents don't care if I listen to music with swear words in as long as they aren't forced to listen to it...
