Alright. I was plugging in a microphone when I accidentally switched off the power strip my computer was plugged into. I turn it back on, and now Windows XP won't start. Specifically, I get a page of options that include Safe Mode, Safe Mode w/ Network, Safe Mode w/ Command Prompt, and Start Windows Normally. When I choose one, it goes to the normal XP loading screen, but then restarts. What the hell is the matter with my computer?

And don't be a smartass, I'm using another computer.

Is it a legit copy of windows? Cause 'cracks' commonly cause restart boot problems.

Almost all non-legit copies don't involve modifying a single file within the OS. You just use a certain serial number, so that point is irrelevant really.

When you switched the computer off without properly shutting down, some system files probably got corrupted. Pop in your XP CD, I think there's an option to reinstall Windows where you wont lose your stuff, it will just put a fresh copy of the system files on your hard drive.

choose safe mode and then restore your computer back to an earlier date....or does every option cause a restart?

    try different options.

Activation cracks, for when people don't use a serial right away....

Installation files? Mac has warped your fragile little mind.

    Still having the problem?

    I'll go over the standards.

Make sure everything is plugged in correctly, and that your RAM is in place and whatnot.

I mean, last resort isn't that bad really, put the hard drive in another computer as a slave drive, backup all your shit, format it, put the drive back in the original computer and reinstall. It sucks, but it's almost a benefit to reformat because you have a fresh, fast windows.

    That's usually what I do.

God, XP has become so much more complicated. Why can't we all go back to the good days of Windows 98 and Windows 2000...two stable systems that barely caused any problems.

98 could be a bitch at times. All those goddamn illegal operation messages. 2000 was the best windows ever, though.

How long have you had XP installed on your computer? If it's been like more than a year, I would recommend reinstalling windows for a fresh new start. Which will help if you experience any low performance.

    Yeah, 2000 was the best.

98 never gave me stupid illegal operation messages, but I've heard about them.

Yeha, it's been maybe two or three years, so I'll try that. Once I find the damn disk, anyway...
