They are probably my favourite band right now :) They are similar to SX, but not as heavy and don't have the symphonic sound, more like regular metal :)

Anyways, these guys formed in 1985, called Majesty, but changed to Dream Theater in 1989 for their debut album 'When Dream And Day Unite'. The group was comprised of John Petrucci on Guitar, Mike Portnoy on Drums, Kevin Moore on keyboards, Charles Dominici on vocals, and John Myung on bass. They made some success on this album, but it was apparent that Charles vocal style wasn't right for the band. In 1991, they found Canadian James LaBrie and he joined them for their sophomore effort, 'Images and Words', which has gone on to earn Gold certification in the US, a huge feat for a prog rock act. This album included 2 MTV hits, 'Pull Me Under' and 'Another Day'. This album featured more of their jazz and 80's influences. Their next album, 'Awake' was much heavier and modern, with another MTV hit, a rocker called 'Lie'. However, Kevin Moore left the band after this album (who was replaced by Derek Sherinian for one album, who was replaced by their current keyboardist, Jordan Rudess) They've done 7 albums and an EP over their career. Including their latest 2003 release, Train of Thought, is their heaviest to date, and IMO their best release since 'Awake'.

They are also the most proficiently skilled band I've ever heard. John Petrucci puts in regular coloumns in Guitar Magazine and has played on the G3 Tour which has featured the like of Steve Vai, Joe Satriani and Yngwie Malmsteen! Mike Portnoy has won Modern Drumming Magazines readers polls for best performance and drummer, and Kevin Shirley (producer of Led Zeppelin, among others) says hes the best drummer out their today. LaBrie has a powerful range as a singer, Rudess was a child prodigy and studied classical music since age 8, and John Myung is the quiet but solid bassist who is key to the band's sound.

Everyone who likes Symphony X should try this band. For starters, I recommend trying their new single 'As I Am', as well as 'Overture 1928', 'Endless Sacrifice', 'Lie', 'Take the Time', 'Wait for Sleep', 'Pull Me Under' and 'Under A Glass Moon'.

Anyone who has heard this band, please state your opinion of them! :)
    Thanks!

I love them; possibly my favorite prog rock act. I've only got Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence, but it's obvious that all of them are talented and superior musically and lyrically. I'd love to see them live. B)

Yeah, I live two blocks away from the arena they played at. I found out they were playing there the day of the show. :(
So, you're going for sure? I hope the tickets aren't too much.

My parents said i can go! its just a matter of getting tickets and calling some friends (I know about 4 or 5 guys who are into them...not much :( ) and seeing if they can go....

The prices last year was $55.00 for a ticket, but that was with supporting acts, so it may be lower this year! :)
