I agree with 99% of this post. (Meteora hater) Haha, anyways... Here is a good example of it being used as a tool.
Autotune starts at 1:29. M. Shadows in my opinion is a great singer. I think it is proven when he changed his singing style after he had surgery for straining his vocal chords. The autotune was used creatively to complement this song. Avenged Sevenfold doesn't need to use it. They just chose to.

Indeed, 808's went hard, and was necessary for him to get where he was goin on Dark Fantasy.

Then again, I thought Dark Fantasy was 'meh' at best, so yeah.

Oh hey I heard this was a Kanye West thread. Late Registration>Dark Fantasy>College Dropout>808s>Graduation.

But at the end of the day Lupe Fiasco > Kanye West. And Atmosphere > Kanye West. And Eminem > Kanye West. And Dr. Dre > Kanye West. And Pharrell Williams > Kanye West. And essentially any hip-hop artist/producer > Kanye West.

The main issue I have with Kanye is the fact that none of his lyrics have a flow or topical consistency, yet people seem to think his lyrics are inspired, or just good in general.

But at the end of the day all of those guys are pretty shit now, whereas Kanye released one of the most commercially and critically successful albums of the last year. Sorry man :/

Purely your opinion. Pharrell, Dre, Eminem, and Atmosphere have all been crazy consistent for their careers, and in my opinion Kanye hasn't been relevant since Graduation. I'd take Pharrell over Kanye any day, even if he is as you say 'pretty shit now'.

I'm happy with it when it's essentially an instrument.

I'm not happy with it when it's used to try and correct the fact that someone can't fucking sing, ala most of the Glee cast.

I'm wondering which part of the Glee cast you're talking about.

Lea Michele, Matthew Morrison and Jenna Ushkowitz have all been on Broadway...

(you can stop the video after Lea's solo if you wish, my point is proven in less than a minute)

Matthew Morrison rocking the uke with Leona Lewis

Jenna Ushkowitz also had a career on Broadway?! NO KIDDING!

Mark Salling had a music career before Glee

Darren Criss wrote and performed in a musical before being in Glee, called A Very Potter Musical. However, this is a video of him killing the shit out of Teenage Dream with Katy Perry doing harmony for the last portion.

And here are little clips of the rest of the cast singing:

In addition, he plays some beast drums.

Naya AND Darren being more musically talented than you give them credit for.
I could go on, but to be fair, the only person WITHOUT a singing background would be Harry Shum Jr., and Heather Morris. They're the dancers and choreographers of the group (even though Heather can in fact sing). Heather Morris has done choreography with Beyonce.

Whereas Harry Shum Jr. has done choreography for You Got Served, Step Up 2 and 3, and worked with Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez, and Jessica Simpson.

So um, excuse me being blunt, but considering your statement above and the huge-ass post I've just made, I have no choice but to say

    YOUR ARGUMENT IS FUCKING INVALID.

Because 1 cast member being unable to sing out of the ensemble they've assembled doesn't mean fucking shit.

Yes, because in this discussion of music we were going purely on facts, and not stating any opinions. And besides, I said that Dark Fantasy was one of the most commercially and critically successful album of the last year, nothing to do with my opinion - in fact I prefer Late Registration and a lot of College Dropout (if it didn't have fifty thousand skits, probably most of it) over Dark Fantasy. I don't see how you can say Kanye West isn't "relevant" now, whatever you mean by that, if anything Dark Fantasy has been his most hyped album yet.

lol @ Eminem and Dre being "crazy consistent", you only need to listen to I Need A Doctor to know how off that is. Atmosphere, ehh, kind of incomparable imo, but if you like. Pharrell can't rap for shit, I should have left him out of the "shit NOW" part probably. Neptunes production is good for most of what they do, and the production on Hell Hath No Fury is sweet as - but when have they done an album on their own that had anything on practically any Kanye album (or just Late Registration/College Dropout if you like)?

What? I don't think you've given his first 3 albums a good listen. Listen to All Falls Down, Spaceship, Jesus Walks, Slow Jamz, Heard Em Say, Addiction, Diamonds from Sierra Leone, Good Morning, I Wonder, Flashing Lights, Welcome to Heartbreak, Homecoming, Bittersweet Symphony etc.

MBDTF was a piece of shit though, IMO.

The only thing done by Kanye that I even remotely liked was "Heatless" when it wasn't done by him. Kris Allen from American Idol re-did that song with kind of like a jazzy-club vibe. I never really cared for Kanye. At all. I will take Minus' side in this arguement with Pharrell, Dre, Eminem, and Atmosphere.

I see your Kris Allen making a crappy Kanye song sound good and raise you Dia Frampton making a crappy Kanye song sound good.

I knew about Dia before some crappy reality TV show.

    /HIPSTER

And I don't care about autotune. If someone wants to abuse the hell out of the effect that's their own business.

I really fucking Love Dia. I hate to admit that at first listen I didn't enjoy her. (someone had made a recommendation years ago) but really, now, I can't get enough. It's embarrassing that it all happened this way, and way fucking late. I feel ashamed.

I raise you to finding out about Meg & Dia on MTV1 through a music video.

    In 2009.

    But I shall lose.

I found out about Meg & Dia in like 2007 when I found "Monster" on YouTube. I was pretty pumped to see her on The Voice. She is so delicious.
