MTV Article On Fan Reactions

There's a word I'd use in everyday parlance to describe some of those comments, but it isn't allowed here.

I'm with you on this. I love the single but I think it's nonsense to say things like "If you don't like the single, then you're not a true fan."

It's OK not to like the single, it's OK to want hard guitars. It means you liked Linkin Park at a certain time in their careers, that's it. As someone who loves a wide variety of music I can't relate to only liking one specific sound, but I can understand.

 

I also agree. But like I said earlier, it's not ok when people say that Linkin Park are idiots and they try to make it FACT that The Catalyst sucks.

 

So, Linkin Park doesn't sound like Linkin Park anymore? That doesn't automatically make a song bad. This was an annoying read.

 

My head is just about to explode. I've almost become repulsed by the words Hybrid Theory or Meteora because anytime I'm reading comments and I see one of these words I move onto the next comment because you can guarantee that you will be in for a bitchfest for the next 2-3 sentences. I'm skeptical that these fans are "10 year" fans. It seems like kiddies come into possession of these two records and are basically 3-5 years behind the rest of the fans. I've come to terms that 40% of the "Diehard" LP fans of HT/M will mature about 3 years after the rest of the fans who are maturing alongside with the band. After 7 years of bitching that HT/M sound needs to come back, it's obvious the band along with any fans progressing with the band DO NOT need to be reminded of this. Either enjoy it or stop complaining and gtfo.

If there're that that worried about the fans, tell them to take a look at the Fb stats 11mill + and counting .

 

I just don't understand what's so appealing about hearing 30 year-olds make songs like they made when they were teenagers. Or think about if you were a musician and everybody wanted you to make the same kind of music OVER and OVER again for 10 years. Unless you're not keen on diversity, the only thing I can slightly understand is that people have expectations of Linkin Park sound-wise, and they don't live up to those expectations...but the band wants you to not have any expectations...soooo...just stop being a fan.

 

All of these opinions won't change a thing if this is the sound the band wants to make. What's important is that some people DO like it. I do and I can't care much about the people who dislike it. It's their opinion and it is respected when they have valid reasons instead of just hating the change from the old styles, but it doesn't change anything. If every single fan on the planet hated it, then they'd have a problem...but that's not the case. People love it! That's important. As one-sided and biased as that sounds, it's true. People appreciate the art.

Exactly. Music is an art. Art, by it's very nature, is subjective. Everyone will have their own opinion on a certain piece, whether it's based on the style, skills, tools, intentions, or reactions.

Fact is, most people think that art is and can only be judged by the first four, and think that their reactions are the only reactions allowed.
