Just listened to it. It's AMAZING! So different and epic. LP making music history in the year of 2010! Write that down folks, you might need to add that into your children's history books someday. lol :-D
I think this song needs to be listened to on a good speakers to be completely appreciated. Listening to it on crappy laptop speakers simply don't do it justice. Honestly, the difference is night and day. I listened through my laptop speakers and was a bit underwhelmed, but after plugging in some better speakers with a sub-woofer the song became soooo much better.
One thing to keep in mind. Linkin Park albums, in general, tend to go from the harder songs to the not so hard songs, i.e. Given Up to The Little Things Give You Away, Don't Stay to Numb, Papercut to Pushing Me Away. I'm not saying that this album will be similar, but The Catalyst is the penultimate song so there is a strong likelihood of there being some "harder" songs on the album.
The Catalyst is the sickest song in the world! OMGGG if the whole album sounds similar to this, then there is a god! I think im gonna have to say i like this more than any other single that Linkin Park has had in the past. A Thousand Suns is probably gonna be my favorite album when it comes out!
End part is pretty tight and the highlight of the song for me. I wish it didn't take 3 minutes to get there. Not a huge fan of the trance chords panned left with right panned power chords...
Lead singles are meant to promote an album and are usually chosen because the particular song that is chosen defines the rest of the album as a whole, in terms of sound. So, with that theory, the other 14 songs should have elements in the that are in The Catalyst. Keep that in mind, people.
Something was causing the server to perform at 4,000% instead of 100%. It was overloading the server entirely. However Todd has done some server tweaks and it seems to be holding up. Server load has dropped substantially.
I'm not feeling the synth... makes it sound too dance/poppish. Also, there could've been a little more variation in melody/lyrics as it sounds kind of repetitive. Other than that this track is solid... and it really reaches a new height from "lift me up.." Overall I'm impressed. Good to see LP finally breaking free from their usual song format.
I think someone on mikes blog said that he likes how the Bass is nice and prominent but the guitars really need to go up! I agree with this, Brad plays a cool riff in this song, but it's barely audible, you can just hear the fuzz more than clarity
