You don't understand. I have PINPOINT ACCURACY. I'll leave a little hair. I don't want the man bald. I just want him to not look like Justin Bieber.

Perhaps Mike is deliberately growing his hair out to piss off the people who worry more about how long his hair is then his musical ability?

Seriously, Justin Bieber hair or not it doesn't really matter. Mike could look like a hobo for all I care as long as he keeps recording great music.

Thats exactly what I was thinking If there is going to be a guitar solo in that song, It will probably be shreding or something more advanced like in pieces (not shredding lol) but That excites me im really looking forward to more brad, and more guitar solos

I'm sorry, I'm not quite following (maybe cause it's 4am).
You think Mike singing & Brad playing guitar solos is a marketing ploy?
I don't get it. At all.
I mean this album isn't the first time we'll hear either thing from the band (MTM says "Hi!"), so to say it's a marketing ploy by mentioning them doesn't make sense.

Advertising Exec. - "OK guys. I have a great new idea that'll boost your sales for this next record. Mike, you sing more, Ok? And Brad, you're gonna start writing solos!
Whadaya think, I'm good right? It's what the fans discussed back in '03, I think you should do it."

    Band -

Brad whispers to Mike - "Dude, we gotta get a new Guy, this guy doesn't even know our catalog"

Exec - "You should also come play in my country :come2brazil:"

Mike at Exec. - "You're fired :lazars:"

This bit is straight up nosensical.
There are many factions among LPs fanbase. Yes, some want LP to buck their formula & go balls out, but others want them to go back to writing HT-ish stuff again. Some want more metal, others want more rap/hiphop, more want electronica, etc, etc.

So where do they go there if they want to please that fan base? No matter which group they try to please, they'll piss off another group. It's pointless to even try & they very well know it.

They're in a position now, commercially, to put out pretty much anything & not worry about it selling. It'll sell plenty off the name alone.

That's given them an oppertunity & from what we can see(5:30min lead single, non-formulaic structures, artwork, etc,) it seems like they are taking that chance & really pushing outside the box & making something they truly want to make.
The fact that it seems to coincide with what one faction of fans want is an inevitable (it's bound to be what someone wants) but happy coincidence. That doesn't mean it's targeted at them.

I agree that Reani was really genuine. No thought to radioplay or pleasing anyone but themselves. But that had the luxury of being a remix album (of a hugely successful album no less) that was being written almost paralell to a main studio album (Meteora). One was getting pressure from label & fans to be a certain way, the other wasn't.

I guess I just don't get why your saying that you're getting "fan service, not music" before actually, y'know, hearing the album.

Mike should look like a hobo. That'd be awesome. He'd have his little hobo coat & his little hobo hat & his little hobo stick with his hobo bundle tied to the end, which he could hang off his mic stand for safe keeping during live gigs.

And Brad should challenge Rubin to a beard off. Old school. With the glove and everything.

    Sorry about the ginormous post.

A long time ago... LP was bashed for their "length" in tracks, this certain individual "Anarchy" from what I remember he/she decided to dissect every little structure that makes a linkin park song what it is. One of the key aspects brought up was the "Guitar Solos"; both previous albums (and remix album) lacked this and was a great push for MTM, but I only recall 2 - 3 songs had the solos in MTM and even then they weren't as sophisticated as the rock that was before them, still it was a good start. And it is a marketing ploy because they are trying to get this very same people (The percentage that bashes LP) to actually like LP. THis is why you have these groups that you mentioned

You'd be surprised! These convos actually do happen I only tell you from experience with working with someone that worked in a record company. Except, I don't think the actual convo went down like that since Mike actually did troll around in the forum of his bands website to know first hand that's how the community felt about their material. Repetitive song structures, short track length times, and lack of solos for a what is an establish rock band from a commercial stand point.

You are correct about this, but where I am coming from does not apply to any of these factions. I just want what the band wants from the heart, not what the company thinks and fits to be a good "studio album" that could drive sales. Which from the things being shown in this LPTV and of course the move of sound from Meteora to MTM and now this hype.. does give me the feel it's a marketing move, not a bad one but I just wish this wasn't the case. I just wish they were their old experimental selves.

If this was the case, you would've not heard the part of Brad saying what Rick felt about the track. We already know these guys can craft beauty, why make it all dramatic like some sort of MTV reality show emphasizing what they need to fix?

They should've been doing this since after Reanimation. Pushing outside the box would be what we had in Reanimation, no boundaries and going after what they want! As you said:

They're in a position now, commercially, to put out pretty much anything and not worry about it selling. It'll sell plenty off the name alone.

It is. We live in a day of age that the internet rules supreme. And seeing how Linkin Park has grown with this era of technology it is most likely this is whom the target is. The forums have been around since 2002 / 2003 and the band wasn't as dedicated as they are now with the community, yet the community has been dedicated to them since then. Mike has' always had an account in the forums and I am sure he's read every little thing that was said of each album in those threads, but only did he start posting after MTM.

Do you not think this is the case with this new album? Because MTM still did not top the hype Hybrid Theory build for this band, Meteora was just a straight up clone. MTM was a good direction but you can tell they need guidance, this album could "be it" but I won't hold a candle lit till I hear it is all I been saying from the beginning. If you feel you can start celebrating then by all means do :) I am not stopping you nor will I get mad about it. I am just saying how I feel so far where things are going.

It's in the video. LPTV <-- that's strictly for the fans, the way the content was shot / rendered / edited was to please the average LP fan. Are you not happy with it's contents? You are defending them right now in this very post, I did give a warning that buttons would be pressed lol.

I was just commenting on how I hate his hair. I can't help it it's just repulsive to look at IN MY OPINION. But don't worry, I care MUCH more about his musical ability. Bring on ATS and the US tour!

Speaking of how the band looks, has anyone else noticed the lack of promotional band photo shot pics?

Didn't we have a bunch of MTM band pictures by this point of the album promoting process last time? Maybe I'm remembering wrong, but I'm pretty we sure we had pics of the bands "new look" before we saw their new logo.

I remember Mike mentioning them having an in-studio photo session a while back. We'll be seeing them soon I think.

As for the new episode... damn. That's some teamwork. I love how they bounce off ideas.

Agreed. I'm not trying to speak for the band, but...

In hindsight, the only albums that really struck me as their genuine sound stems from the material found in Xero, Hybrid Theory EP, and Reanimation.
