If the dude made that toilet, I'd say it's art, but you know what? LP have some REALLY simple riffs. You really don't need to know how to play guitar to play Papercut or the main melody of Numb and Crawling. If you think really simplistic guitar riffs and melodies are art, I'd only believe that the reason you would compare it to the toilet is because you don't understand what it means

I like the album cover; although it does put some strain on the eyes a tad. There's got to be more to this than meets our many eyes/ perspectives. Perhaps band leaves it up for interpretation just like the way they would like the public to view their music. I like what many have said regarding simplicity etched throughout time that has left a significant mark in the history of music. This was a ballsy move to reveal artwork in this style to the world and I respect that decision they've made. There is more to be said from every band member on the topic of the ATS album cover. Who was expecting them to release such a simplistic, beautiful, and risky piece of art? Hmm that sounds familiar...

What this music can do to my emotions and my imagination makes it art from my point of view. If someone considers a toilet art, than there's no arguing with that. You could probably give me numerous reasons why a road sign is art, and I just wouldn't have the authority to say you're wrong.

Edit: It's the recipient anyway who decides what a piece of any given art means (see for example Roland Barthes' "The Death of the Author").

I don't know why but the album cover reminds me of one poster for the 2009 Star Trek movie.

I'm starting to like it a little more now, but I still think it needs a little editing.

I gotta say, it looks way better when it's inverted. Maybe that'll be the special edition cover.

yes! it totally reminded me of the star trek revival movie too. It would be cool if the white changes to black and vise versa on the album cover depending on the way you hold it or look at it - almost like a holographic style of artwork. I am perplexed as to what the inspiration of this art is. Was it serendipitously produced? Did Mike and Joe smash some of their artwork together and end up with an unexpected lightbulb of empowerment? Questions that will only be answered with more time.

Yeah, for the previous albums, the album covers were pretty complex, and the music was pretty simple, so maybe we might get a reverse effect on this album

It's undefinable, just like the the sound Linkin Park is trying to create.

    Oooooooh.....parallels....

You know... this made me stop and think. Now, don't get me wrong. I LOVE the album cover. I can't possibly express that enough. I think that taking the focus away from the package and putting it on the music is ballsy and risky and just what the band needs if this music is epic and game changing, but what you made me think of was...

    what was the label thinking...

Really? This music has to be something special right? I mean I know Linkin Park as a product has proven to be profitable and I know they have marketed themselves well. They've grown themselves as artists and as a business, but really, to walk into a boardroom somewhere and say, "Okay, here's our album cover."

You know someone in that meeting had to have the same feelings that one of the fans did. A thought of "What the hell, did you design this in three minutes on a Mac?" or "Did you spill paint on a piece of paper?"

I just have to hope that there's some epic bigger picture to the whole album, that this is some small piece of a bigger artwork. Even with LP's proven profitability, most labels don't take that kind of risk.

    Just my two cents.
