It reminds me of those movies where people go to a psychologist, and they have all these pictures with ink spots on them.

"So.. what do you see on this picture?"

That's actually the first thing I thought of when I saw it lol.

And wow, this is beyond terrible. As long as the music isn't terrible, then I'm ok. The music is the most important thing.

I'll be looking for this artwork on Best Buy's shelf on September 14th... Or maybe I'll preorder...

I see this 'symbolism' that you're trying to reach at but it doesn't make the appeal of the piece increase. See my previous thread concerning minimalism. There's no attachment to this piece.

We care because we're used to having stunning artwork. You may have missed it because you jumped topics, but Mike has done more than one album cover (HTEP, HT, Reanimation, Meteora with the rest of the band). HT and Meteora's covers were also very simplistic, but artistically sound. This is simplistic but it doesn't have any impact. I could recreate this piece in 3 minutes.

EDIT: And I'd take MTM's artwork over this any day.

I'm sure the music will be great. And with most bands, I don't care that much about their album art. But an LP album experience, for me at least, has always been about the art almost (but not quite) as much as the music. And to see them put something on their album, especially after all the sweet promo stuff and the kickass The Catalyst cover, that I could make in 10 minutes in Photoshop... That's just disappointing.

Now that I think about it, I think I might actually use The Catalyst's artwork as my album art for ATS...

I don't think it bad. It's very different. Not as large in scale like all their other covers. The band is taking risk on all fronts. I think we should applaud them for that

This is a very risky and brave move by them, and I like that they're leaving it nameless. I love that they're taking chances like this. This album just gets better and better and I still maintain this will be their best album yet.

I love it. It's different. Taking the focus off the package and putting it on the music.

Exactly. I really like the direction.

It may have been a bit of a shock at first, but IMO, that's a good thing.

I think I like it, I just don't know what it means exactly.

The fact is, if they wanted to go the nameless route...that's fine. But Mike could've painted an image and just not put their logo on it. I just...fail to have an emotional connection to this cover. Even with MTM's cover (which everyone seemed to hate) I loved the symbolism of the band looking off into nothingness.

With this...I'm just having trouble falling in love with it :/.

...and I'm in there twice, and you know I'm onto something when Jeff agrees with me.

I'm starting to like it now. The more I look at it the more its kind of growing on me.

I think what I'm liking the most about it is at first it just looked like a black blob on a white background. But now with a closer look (And help with this picture that lplfan did on LPL) I sort of see the bigger picture.

And I also agree that its a very big risk by the band. I have alot of respect for them for taking alot of chances with this album.

True but most of us already knew that. But it's a good reminder, heh.

I am also a little disappointed if this is the real cover art. I'm sure they're gonna add some sort of text before they release it.

[edit]: Okay, I'm not so sure anymore and kind of like the textless image... it's growing on me.

As being an artist myself, i am REALLY DISAPPOINTED from the artwork. I know its about the music as well but come on, we always had the BEST OF THE BEST album art from HT till Collision Course or u can count M2M too as it was WAY BETTER than this MICKEY MOUSE. I never expected the art to be so cheap and meaningless knowing LP have 2 professional brilliant artists, Mike and Hahn.

Such a BRILLIANT Resemblance, Disgrace to LP's Artwork:
