The song, in my opinion is just ok. Didn't blow me away like No Roads Left. It definitely would have been better if Mike had one or two more verses.

 

I know, I know! Blackmail me with the green candle... I get it.

On topic: I'm really looking foward to this game. Can't wait to see how the whole chat community on the game works as well.

Blackbirds gets quite addictive after a few listens. The beat is catchy but could have been developt more as the song progresses, the bass felt kinda empty at times. I think Mike's rap is extraordinary as well as the lyrics of both. I agree with who says Mike should have rapped a bit more, specially on the second bridge part. The intro is interesting with that distance-effect. Had to get used to it, but is an interesting dare. I think, unlike other people, that Chester sung with emotions, just not common ones as the lyrics theme itself is weird. His performance is superb. I think the instrumental should have developt from Mike's verse, cause that part feels like something epic, and last chorus could have been more powerful maybe.
End sum, yes it might have been a bit rushed as song, but what do you want? is an unreleased demo, made for sure better for the game, but still older stuff which actually is good enough to let me wonder what kind of monster the next album will be. I like the scheme of the song was changed from usual, but is still a 3 minutes song, while the new album should have longer tracks, and that makes me hope in more fusions between Mike and Chester during a single track, with variations in the melody power and a large variety of moods.
Is true, the unreleased songs were all great till now, but if looking closely, each one of those themes might not have fit 100% with MTM other songs. Just my opinion.
Blackbirds to me is a 8/10 anyway.
Mike & Chester is a duet that can become legend in my eyes. When they do lives, beside each other, it's just special, and this song makes me reconfirm LP needs balance of them both, cause they have a magic when they mix their voices together. Something any other band has, just LP.

 

While I don't think the track is extremely great. I like the steps being taken here. It doesn't sound stale. it doesnt bore me like all of LP's more recent work. I have a hopeful heart
