Meh, been done and done to a better degree.

"Hello, we're Hoobastank, we've completely lost popularity so we covered a song people would think was funny even though we're meant to be a completely serious band."

Despite the cover being awesome, everything you said is pretty much right on the money.

Please. Clearly they're having fun... doing something like this doesn't kill your credibility, even if you are a serious band.

Hoobastank was never a band that should've been taken seriously, so this cover can very safely be enjoyed as just pure fun. I would like to get myself one of those outfits they're wearing and a plastic replica of a proton pack.

I don't care for Hoobastank, but I don't think this means they are desperate per se. I mean, look at Mmm...Cookies by Linkin Park, a usually serious band.

Not disagreeing with you (i don't really care tbh), Mmm...Cookies was a fan club only release, where as this is single WITH a music video.

This is not a single. This was something done for the fans that the band recorded in one of the members' studios. And they had fun and filmed a video for it... is it really that big of a deal?

If it was any other band, probably not. But it's Hoobastank and they have a history of constantly getting crap from most people. They aren't a well liked band for some reason. At least that's my thought.
