I had a previous thread about baby names before, but I shall abide by LPA rules and not bump it out of the darkness.

As it's a well known fact I am pregnant and that to do this date I have not found out the sex of my child (will be happening in about hopefully a fornight's time when I go see my obstrecian and then I can get a referral off him but am hoping for a girl so bad) but I have been keeping a tab of names that I do like.

Okay so it's a bit early for me yet to be deciding to call my kid but my mother and I are in neverending arguments about what my child will be called. BUT we have reached an agreement on some names. So I'm wondering what do you think are nice names for a child, both a boy's name or a girl's name? Maybe you could even possibly help me to try and reason with my mother a bit.

    Here is my list:

    Boy's name
    Riley
    Dylan
    Axel

    Girl's name
    Mia-Rose
    Ella-Mae
    Belle

Key: Bold names is what my mother and I agree on. Coloured ones are the ones that I will call my child. You can see me and my mother don't see eye to eye on names most of the time, boys names in particular. She hated Axel but leaned towards Anthony and Alexander (yuck yuck yuck yuck yuck - also my dad's and brother's middle names btw). I try not to spell names differently because then you have to explain for the rest of your life "oh no, that's not how it's spelt" but Ella-Mae is probably the only exception I like. The name Meg, (no Megan just Meg) was in the air for a while for a girl, but then I realised I am not that much of a dedicated White Stripes fan to name my child that.

Samir is a cool guy's name, yes?

    Eddy is a good guy's name ;)

    Okay okay.

I'd go with dylan and mia-rose.

I think Mia-Rose is a lovely name. Ella-mae...I think that's awful, no offense. It's just very southern-goody two shoes, imo. OH- I'm thinking of Ellie-Mae from the Beverly Hillbillies, hence the association.

Riley is a pretty cool name; it goes a little weird with your last name, for me. Dylan, for me, the repeating d, l and n (when you put Dylan Woodland together) sounds throw me off.

Names that I like...for a boy, I've always been drawn to J names, and I think Jeremiah is pretty cool. A little old school but I think it's kinda cool. I also really like Josh/Joshua...not just because that's my boyfriends name, ha. (That's probably why I got together with him :p)

For a girl: I kinda like Tamera, or Tami. I'm kinda having a hard time thinking of good female names right now, hmm.

I like the name Riley and I think it sounds really good with your last name.

I'm not liking the female names very much. Mia isn't a bad name though.

Sarah, name your baby what you want to name it, not what your mother thinks you should.

I had an ex gf named Elif (pronounced Ay-Liff). Also can be affectionately changed to Liffy. I always thought that was quite pretty.

I've always liked the name Gan.. But also I've got to say that ultimately it is your choice what you , yourself name your child and not your mothers. I'm not meaning to be rude or anything but, it's not your mothers child.

Anyway, for a girl, Lilly, Mia, Ali, Samantha, Wendi,

I was seriously considering Ava for a while, after a Smashing Pumpkins song that I like Ava Adore

I dont have the father in my life anymore so I can't discuss it with him anymore and my mum is basically the only support beam I have at the moment.

And she won't support you if you were to choose a name she didn't like?

    I hope not!
But she had a valid point with the name Axel though. Everyone I told were like 'Isn't it a car part?'.

It's also a really epic name for a boy.

Although, it brings to mind Axl Rose, and that's never a good thing.

Calling your child Axel is okay as long as you're a character in The Jetsons. :p

Haha true. In all seriousness, and with all due respect, personally if I do have children I'd give them more traditional names like Keith or Andrew or Ian and stuff like that.
